Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Speaks about the Cardiff/QPR match

Sunday 17th April

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ended his playing career at Cardiff and has now steadied the ship at QPR who have lost just twice in their last 11 games.

But the former Holland international striker admitted his team lacked ambition in attack.

He said: "We controlled the game in the first half and had a lot of possession but I would have liked to see far more penetration. We should have gone for it more and ended our attacks with a shot or a cross instead of keeping the ball for the sake of it.

"Cardiff didn't have a lot to say or couldn't get near to us but I'm not someone who just wants possession. We need to have a purpose and that could have been better.

"But we were dominant with the ball which is refreshing at such a tough place given Cardiff have only lost once at home.

"We knew they would come out in the second half and that we would have difficult moments.

"But we dug in and put our bodies on the line in the last few minutes and showed some real spirit and commitment. So I'm very happy that we kept a clean sheet."

What I saw yesterday were two teams who just couldn't score, & we only really woke up in the last twenty minutes, which made the Immers substitution all the more puzzling. I would have replaced Pilkington myself, with about 15 minutes to go.

The substitutions yesterday were very poor. Even the one I agreed with that Peter W needed to be subbed was cocked up as he was taken off just before taking a free-kick which was left to Noone who made a complete hash of it.

I thought the Whitts sub was just a waste (if he was taken off instead of O'keefe when Ameobi come on it would have been different), Noone was poor all game and I would have taken him off for Lawrence.

I sought of agree. O'Keefe shouldn't have been taken off Whitts should have gone at that point with Lawrence coming on to play on the right, Noone left. I would have made it a double substitution bringing on Zohore for Pilkington who was just being caught offside time and again. In theory our 2 wingers would then cross for the big man instead of cutting inside all the time to take pot shots.

However, with O'Keefe withdrawn and Whitts moving central we began to get overrun as we always do when PW plays central so Slade had to rectify that by bringing on Gunnar.
