Will Russell Slade get a new deal?

The most pressing concern for the club is whether or not they keep Slade on board.

Maybe his fate depends on whether or not Cardiff make the play-offs, maybe the decision has already been made, but hopefully the club wastes no time in deciding either way. They can’t afford to waste the summer.

It’s not an easy decision but if they replace him, it has to be because they are aiming higher and that may prove expensive.

If they are planning to keep costs down, they may as well keep him.

It is a decision that will define Cardiff’s immediate future.

Personally I would keep Slade but not as manager, I would send him upstairs purely to reward him of what he's achieved with everything against him and what he had to do to reduce the wage bill etc etc. I don't think he can take us any further than he has, although having saying that, I think the team are still quite capable of reaching top 6, optimistic you may say but I truly believe that, let's hope I'm right. If we do get to the playoffs and luck is with us to reach the premier league once again then I don't think Slade will be the man to keep us there but I'd still keep him at the club :ayatollah:

Annis, so am I  but you know what I used to think about Slade and he won me over but I still don't think he is the manager to take us to the next level, if we stay in this division, I would keep him though

a good championship manager at his best but i wouldnt say he is the man to get us up although with the cost cutting that has gone on recently i wouldnt expect us to pay so much more for a bigger name on the hope that we get promoted so i fully expect him to be there next yr for the simple reason that the club wont have the ambition to go for it after their recent experiences im not surprised either

I think VT will keep him, if we don't go up this season and the club show ambition next season VT will give him the money because he 100% trusts him..

Don't know what his best team is

Out of his depth in my opinion - if we want to kick around in the championship then Slade will be ok

It depends on the clubs ambitions

Let him go. Leyton Orient are looking for a new manager. They would suit each other.

I think your right on the money here.I trust his football knowledge more than many on here.

Surely it all depends who would replace him. IMO Slade has done a very good job personally I would keep him however if VT has a good replacement ready I can accept letting Slade go.

However no point getting rid of a good championship manager if we are not upgrading.

Id replace him, not a fan personally.

He is out of contract and hasn't been offered a new one, would be surprised if he does now.

I agree with that. Trust is everything to Tan. If Tan did go for someone else, it would be a pretty ruthless decision after all the work Slade has done in shouldering the criticisms that should of been aimed at the board (not playing Guerra etc). He has worked hard here.

It would be difficult to believe Slade would do better than Warnock with the same players next season mind. All down to how ruthless Tan is

ThrowbackWednesday :ayatollah:

Cardiff City: Vincent Tan wants Russell Slade to beat record

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan hopes would-be manager Russell Slade can beat Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's long-service record.

The Welsh club and Slade's former side Leyton Orient are in dispute over his proposed move to the Bluebirds.

"I hope Russell Slade can beat Arsene Wenger's record," said Tan.

Wenger, 64, has been in charge of the Gunners for 18 years and Slade, 53, would be at Cardiff until he is at least 71 to meet Tan's aim.

Tan also says if and when Cardiff return to the Premier League, he might consider selling the club.

"If I sell Cardiff I would buy another club in the UK," Tan added.

"I love football now. I've got a club in Sarajevo.

"The fans are fantastic, the people who run the club are incredible, honest people. They really motivate me.

"I'm looking to buy another club in Europe and then I may invest in a club in the US, the MLS (Major League Soccer)."

Malaysian businessman Tan also revealed Slade is helping Cardiff as a consultant.

"We now have a little problem with Leyton Orient but that is being sorted out," Tan, 62, said.

"Russell is helping us a little bit on consultancy until he can sort out his contract. Then we can officially hire him."

Orient initially rejected an approach by the Bluebirds for Slade, who had been their manager since 2010.

Slade spoke of his frustration at not being permitted by the League One side to talk to Cardiff following the O's League Cup defeat by Sheffield United on 23 September.

He then handed in his resignation and Orient put Kevin Nugent in charge for last Saturday's 3-2 defeat by Rochdale in League One.

Cardiff's legal team are discussing a compensation deal with Orient, who have referred the matter to their lawyers.

The Welsh side have been without a manager since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stepped down on 18 September.

Slade - named League One manager of the year for the 2013-14 season - has been one of the favourites to take over since Solskjaer departed.

Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon are in temporary charge and were described as "legends" by match-winner Anthony Pilkington following their 2-1 weekend win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Gabbidon and Young have also overseen a 2-2 draw at Derby and a 3-0 League Cup defeat by Bournemouth.

Slade has held talks with Orient owner Francesco Becchetti and has said he was "proud" to be linked with Cardiff, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2013-14.

The Bluebirds sacked Malky Mackay in December 2013, with successor Solskjaer departing after less than nine months in charge.

Young and Gabbidon are expected to be in charge for Tuesday's trip to Brighton while the negotiations continue.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was retained for another season. He's done most of what VT wanted of him except promotion so I think he'll get one more shot at it. If he is to replace him then I doubt it would be with any of the ones bandied about on here as when he did that talk earlier he spoke about how much Pulis would have cost. My impression is that when he does get a new manager it will be someone from the lower divisions, along the same lines, giving someone the chance to prove themselves.

I am not sure what more he could achieve considering the position he was in. The team are certainly fighting for him.
I can't see Tan releasing him when he has done everything Tan requested, achieved more than most of us expected and started to bring the fans back to the club.

Slade is a Good honest hardworking manager...however he has achieved nothing of any note at all in 20 years of management

I have grown to like the man but I believe with him in charge we will never get promotion
