Craig Noone a one trick pony

Sat Apr 09, 2016 11:08 pm

Very disappointed with Nooney today. But he is very much a one trick pony he always cuts inside and yesterday he was owned every single time. Very much a one footed player.
He can be an impact player coming off the bench but at the moment offers very little else. Harsh maybe but that is my view.

And Lawrence is not a striker.

He's left footed, he should play on the left wing, not the right

100% agree. Been saying EXACTLY the same, he's been found out and constantly loses the ball and won't fight to win it back.
When McCormack robbed him yesterday it summed it up.

We have some very good players in our squad, but are weak out wide and up front when Pilkington is unavailable .

Thought Whitts was poor as well.

I'd rather put Gunnersson out wide than Noone, at least he can cross and will fight for the ball. Can keep O'Keefe or KD in the middle then.

In the summer we need a striker and left winger.

The 2 who came on today have got a lot of work to do.

You ever notice Annis when Nooney is charging off down the wing he does the same thing every time. Fulham realised this yesterday and they knew what he was going to do. But yeah I do agree when he is on fire he is brilliant but yesterday he was awful.
And I also agree with Lawnmower above as well. Unfair to just to pick out Nooney. But the one question I want to know why the hell wasn't O Keefe playing ? Along with Lars has been our best two players.
And also worth a mention Scotland's number 1 he is by far the best keeper outside the Prem :bluescarf:

Thats true Nukes and thats his failure and thats why he is still with us.

Noone should be switched from right wing to left wing at regular intervals during a game. Yesterday Fulham put 2-3 players on him when he had the ball out right to stop him cutting in and as a result he was ineffective.

Slade should have seen this and moved him or replaced him.

That's an order.

First off, I'm not sure why Noone is getting the blame for always cutting in? He's left footed, and his being selected every time to play on the right by his manager - he HAS to cut inside to bloody do anything. Yes, teams had him figured out over a year ago, yet Slade has not changed tactics at all.

That said, Noone really has been a disappointment since we got relegated. That Malky ignited him the first 25% of our Premiership season was a crime, one made even more obvious when Noone started ripping up the Premiership. He's suited to that league, where the style of play, formations, and players allow a player of his skills to excel.

Sadly, in the Championship, he just doesn't click as well. Teams are set up a lot tougher, and less open. And with so little pace down the middle and left of our midfield, teams can afford to put an extra man on Noone as he represents our only fast-breaking attacker. When Fabio is down the left, we are so much more threatening because it stretches the opposition and frees Noone up a bit more.

As it stands, we play a lop-sided midfield four, which all the emphasis going down our right midfield where our right midfielder is actually left footed so has to cut in - so damn easy to defend. Look how often Malone is out on the left wing on his own with no one in front of him, because the midfield leans right every time.

I've wanted to see Noone play in the pocket for so long, and now that we've started doing that with a midfielder (Immers most of the time, Lawrence too), I'm really surprised we haven't tested Noone in that role. In theory, he'd tear people apart in that position and create major space for Pilkington.

I'm not excusing Noone, as his form has been inconsistent and in hindsight we should've cashed in on him given we've not really got a whole lot from keeping him. BUT, some of that inconsistency is down to bad game planning from our management team and a seeming inability to switch to a new plan given Noone has been sussed out on the right wing for over 12 months.

He can't play on the left wing because he can't cross the bloody ball, its hit and hope stuff.

He can't play in the 10 or "hole" because Immers is showing how it should be done.

A lot have stated that Slade is playing him on the wrong side Etc but I was hoping not to slate Slade on this thread but in the end it is what it is. Slade out !! :laughing6: :laughing6:

If you're the opposition manager you just have to tell your full back to show Noone the outside every time he has the ball.

If he can't get the ball on his left foot he can do no damage to you at all.

Was amazed yesterday when "fatty" McCormack ran past him to reach a ball before Noone! :o
