Im hearing that after yesterdays announcement by the fa wales that Port Talbot fc have been turned down for a domestic License for the WPL next year that they currently have a wage bill of £4500 per week players haven't been paid for over a month.
Only a matter of time before they go to the wall, they have some big earners down there Beaker is reportedly on £750 a week !!! this is madness.
Port Talbot are really getting the life kicked out of them lately .

Sad state of affairs. The Welsh premier league is a joke. No teams in south or south east Wales. In the southern half of the country there's only port talbot, Carmarthen and Haverfordwest. They have refused entry to Caernarfon Town who are one of the bigger clubs capable of attracting crowds of 300-400 (Derby games v Bangor they get 1000 or so). The whole thing needs restructuring to 14-16 clubs. Play summer football. Maybe even allow ccfc and Jack reserve teams to participate.
As for Tate being paid 750 a week. That's 750 too much.

Barry Town got granted their Licence today which is great news.
Hopefully they will get back in the WPL this year.
The league needs to be ring fenced with the clubs based in the major towns and historically supportive towns. Those mentioned in South Wales should qualify along with Ponty and Cwmbran and Bridgend. Tough luck on teams like Goytre, Afan Lido and the other village clubs in Mid & North Wales.
TNS are an exception (at present).
The FAW could then help these clubs out financially with travel and behind the scenes expenses. Players wages should be the responsibility of the clubs.

So effectively you want to do what the egg has done and kill football in areas that aren't deemed worthy enough to have a team?
No club around here will survive with us, the Jacks and Newport County playing at a much higher level nearby. Hence why all these South Walian clubs are dropping like flies, Cwmbran, Barry, Neath, Llanelli, Cwmbran and now Port Talbot have all dropped from the league in years gone by. Replaced by the likes of Bala and Prestatyn, tiny places in comparison.

the little clubs with next to no support cant afford to play in the WPl for more than a season. Too much travelling is the killer.
Most Welsh League village teams have a year or two of glory at the top of the Welsh League and then work their way back down again...the good players and managers move on and the lack of funds mean they go back to mediocrity.
It is not the same as the rugby set up. The clubs they dismissed like Ponty & Pontypool had and still have large fan bases.
Villages like Goytre, Bala, Caerswys do not have more than a few fans.

The league isn't about fans though is it, if fans meant anything Portsmouth wouldn't be where they are now and the Jacks wouldn't be in the Prem. Fact is these south Walian clubs have gone to the wall due to reckless over spending on players wages (Trundle at Neath was on a grand a week by all accounts) and the Llanelli lads who used to sit near me years ago told me some players were on £500 a week at Llanelli

, then they went to the wall.
Bala must be a very well ran club for them to be punching above their weights like they are, I think it's unfair to toss them out of the league. Bridgend, Cwmbran and Barry will be back up there instead of these small village clubs if they are ran properly and don't over spend on players. I see Barry are doing very well this season, fantastic. TNS and Airbus are minted in comparison to the rest of the league though, it will be hard to break up their dominance. I have been to where TNS used to play in Llansantffraid, literally a tiny village.

As a Port Talbot resident and one who watched them for three seasons there are key problems:
Unrealistic wages
Crowds of less than 100
Unrealistic perception of levels of ability
Lack of sponsorship
The Northern clubs are mostly scousers who have been released by other clubs
Costs for travel up north are huge
A shame really

Good post and spot on about Scousers. In fact Mancs and even Brummies would travel to North Wales to play not forgetting other areas of Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside. It's a huge player pool available to them.

Do not know why they don't have a north and south premier league, and then the top teams in both leagues play off for a place in europe. that would cut out the travelling to the north and south sides in the league, but would create interest in the playoffs to attract a decent crowd to offset the expense of north south travelling in the play offs.

Also would promote an away following for the clubs. I think that's a good idea

Excellent suggestion, I am sure it has been made before though.
Probably dismissed by the northern biased FAW as the Northern clubs do ok as they don't have to travel so far as they have only a few long expensive journeys south each season.

Agree Wez, think a lot of Bluebirds and Jacks will support the South Walian teams during the summer and I imagine there are loads of Manc and Scouser club ST holders in North Wales who would support the teams up there. By the time the English season starts the Welsh one will be coming to the end of the season and people may stick around to see how their teams finish.
Seems a no brainer to me.

I don't know why they don't I can see why parks don't as there wouldn't be enough pitches but the prem teams own there own grounds

Not a bad idea, few sticking points though I know a few lads who play for camarthen & as soon as their seasons over the single 1s shoot off for a few lads holidays for 2 weeks & the 1s with kids arrange their holidays around the kids summer holidays etc.stupid money was being bandied around at that level for years,a well known ex JB was on 10k a week at neath at 1 point! needless to say they didn't last to long as a club

Things are about the get a lot worse for the WPL with alleged match fixing allegations about to surface this week .
Sun Apr 10, 2016 3:17 pm
To be honest I wouldn't watch port talbot or Afan lido in a summer league .by the time the end of season comes I've had enough of football I only live five minutes from either ground .but I still don't think the crowds would be any better by July cardiff and Swansea are back in training playing pre season friendlies so idont think it would work

It came in aswell !!

All payments to players have now been suspended,my source tells me that one of the players that ALLEGEDLY placed a bet on his own team to lose on Saturday v Rhyl shares his name with a very popular coffee house (Not starbucks).
Bets were also placed on Port Talbot to loose to Carmarthen Town 3 weeks ago when a young side was named.
This didn't go to plan and the young players actually won .

I live seconds away from Jenner Park, there's definetly a feel good factor going on atm and won't be long before they're back in the big time, they're a big club with crowds of 500 most games, I remember the likes of Man Utd, Porto and D.Kiev playing at Jenner Park back in the day, madness when you think where they have ended up.
As for T.N.S - have a mate who plays for them, think they're based just shy of Oswestry near Shrewsbury, another big side with some decent talent.

This also happened with another Welsh side (Wrexham) earlier in the season as I had a tip in a game against Dover for Wrexham to be losing 2-0 at HT, and 2-1 FT - I didn't put any money on it but a mate did and won thousands.
