" Burnley, Leeds, Cardiff and Rotherham bosses up for Championship manager prize "

07/04/16

THE nominations for the Sky Bet Championship manager of the month for March have been announced.

Sean Dyche, boss of league leaders Burnley, is up for the prize, along with Leeds United's Steve Evans and Russell Slade of Cardiff City.

Also shortlisted is Neil Warnock, who boosted Rotherham United's survival hopes with 10 points from four league games last month, including a 3-3 draw with Derby County, when the Millers fought back from three goals down inside the final 10 minutes

RUSSELL SLADE UP FOR CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD

He is up against Burnley’s Sean Dyche, Steve Evans of Leeds and Rotherham's veteran manager Neil Warnock

Russell Slade has been shortlisted for the Championship’s manager of the month after March form gave the Bluebirds renewed hope of a May promotion.

Cardiff picked up wins over Bristol City, Ipswich and drew at Reading in March, and while they also lost a seven-month unbeaten home record at the hands of Leeds, it was enough to see Slade nominated for the division’s monthly prize.

He is up against Burnley’s Sean Dyche, Steve Evans of Leeds while favourite is likely to be the veteran Neil Warnock who has transformed Rotherham’s fortunes and guided them to three wins and a draw in March, including boosting those Bluebird aims of a top-six finish by beating Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich.

Slade has never won manager of the month while at Cardiff in his first Championship appointment having won several awards in the league below with Yeovil and Leyton Orient, among others.

Wales striker Sam Vokes is up for player of the month award, scoring four goals for the Clarets before appearances for Chris Coleman’s side against Northern Ireland and Ukraine, although was kept at bay by Cardiff in Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw at Turf Moor.

Marco Antenucci of Leeds United, Rotherham midfielder , Lee Frecklington and Sheffield Wednesday’s Tom Lees are also in the running for the award, the winners of both annopunced on Friday.

Please God don't let it go to Slade. I remember every time DJ won that award we'd go on a losing streak afterwards.

Can't actually remember Malky winning it (surely he must have at some point we won the league FFS) and obv. Ole wasn't really here to pick up much more than his mail let alone an award so don't know if the trophy is still cursed?

Personally I'd give it to Warnock - great job he's done at Rotherham :ayatollah:

That's because DJ thought he achieved promotion when he won it didn't bother putting in the effort afterwards. :laughing6:

Warnock for me by a mile 17 from the last 21 points, beat Sheffield Wednesday away, Ipswich away,Middlesbrough and Leeds at home, add to that the remarkable "out of the thin air" draw against Derby also beat a decent Brentford side at home, probably the only below par score was the Bristol City draw at home.

This was the bottom 5 before that run.

Position Played Points
19 Blackburn 30 - 34
20 Bristol City 33 - 34
21 MK Dons 33 - 32
22 Rotherham 33 - 26 **
23 Bolton 33 - 26
24 Charlton 33 - 25
----==-
And the present standings

Position Played Points
19 Fulham 40 - 44
20 Bristol City 40 - 44
21 Rotherham 40 - 43 **
22 MK Dons 40 - 37
23 Charlton 40 -36
24 Bolton 40 - 26

Can you imagine if the City had put a string of results like that against those teams where we would be now!.
