' GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST MANAGERS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP '

NEIL WARNOCK :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Thursday 8th April 2016

After languishing at the foot of the table for much of the season, Rotherham’s recent turnaround may have secured their 2nd tier status for another term…

Under Neil Warnock
17points from the last 21points available :ayatollah:

No money and a very small club.

Rotherham head into match-day 10 as the English Championship’s form side after collecting 17 points from their last seven games.

It was bleak viewing for Rotherham fans until newly appointed Head Coach Neil Warnock arrived.

But the revitalised Millers’ have found form in Lee Frecklington, Leon Best and super sub Danny Ward propelling themselves five points clear of the drop heading into their last seven games, with a trip to struggling Bristol City next on the calendar.

It was Danny Ward who grabbed the winner at home to Brentford in late February after only being on the pitch for nine minutes.

The win was the first of three against (at the time) top 10 opposition, including an away win at playoff hopeful’s Sheffield Wednesday and title chasers Middlesbrough.

Ward then played the instigator in a fierce comeback at the New York Stadium where fans had seen their side go 3-0 down to Derby County in 60 minutes.

Ward found the net in the 83rd minute with a crisp finish which birthed spirit into the side and fellow substitute Leon Best bagged two late headers including one in the last minute of stoppage time, extending the Millers’ unbeaten run to four games. The result typified Rotherham’s rapid transformation.

Best was then named in the starting eleven for the trip to Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich and he duly repaid his manager with what was the only goal of the game; the Rotherham defence showed a mean resilience to collect a third clean sheet in four games.

Captain, Lee Frecklington, has been at the heart of the Millers’ upturn, scoring the winner against Middlesbrough and also in their last match to date against Leeds. A natural ball winner with a cool head and an eye for a pass, Frecklington has been key to the success of Warnock’s regime and has scored four goals in the league this season.

Indeed, the confidence is flowing and show’s no sign of faltering either. The recent fixtures were ones that the Rotherham faithful wouldn’t have expected to pick up many points from but the South Yorkshire side move into the final period of the season in good shape and favourable opposition to play.

He is doing an excellent job at Rotherham, fair play to him.

Old Colin has proved himself as a top Championship manager many times. Never quite done it in the Premiership but he shows what can be done if a manager can mould a team spirit and get everyone pulling in the same direction.

Remind you of anyone? ;)

might be getting better with age. For me this is a massive achievement and arguably one of his greatest triumphs. Yes, promotion is prob the be all and end all in regards to success. However, to be relegated from Championship to L1 can destroy clubs and take a long time to recover, especially for a club the size of Rotherham

So Slade hasn't moulded a team spirit and got all his players putting in an effort? Where have you been recently :?

Slade and Warnock arnt even in the same ball park. Slade may learn something if he understudied Warnock for about three season, then he would be hard pushed to even be good enough to tie Warnocks boot laces :bluebird:

Where have I been recently? Watching us scoring goals from corners.

If Warnock had been our manager all season and with the squad we have I reckon we'd be comfortably in the top 6 and probably challenging for automatic promotion.

He's done more at Rotherham in a quarter of a season with less money and less talented players than Slade has done in 18 months.

After all we've been through in terms of the fans, team and club coming together why do we still have to have pro Slade versus Anti Slade shite over and over and over again.

Yes Neil Warnock is a good championship manager. Perhaps one of the best - and i've always would have liked him here. Like Holloway I think he has a nice balance between playing decent football and being a bit of a character that I think that City fans tend to warm to .

But he is not our manager and our manager is doing a decent job so why does the thread need to descend into petty bickering about Slade versus Warnock? :sleepy2:

In response to Annis' OP - I fully agree he has been consistently one of the best managers outside of the top flight and it's a massive shame he has never been backed in Prem. Perfect example of english managers not being fashionable enough in the top flight. Would he have done any worse than Remi Garde at Villa?

If your scrapping at the bottom of the table he would be top choice, knows the league and what to do to survive
