RUSSELL SLADE: "WE CAME WITH A GAME PLAN"

' Burnley Positives For Russell Slade '

'We came with a game plan and I thought we nullified their strengths and took good control of the game, creating some very good opportunities against a very good side.'

Wednesday 6th April 2016

Manager Russell Slade was obviously disappointed not to pick up the win last night against Burnley, but he knew there were plenty of positives Cardiff City could take from the match.

Keeping a clean sheet in the scoreless draw at Turf Moor yesterday evening, Slade told the Official Site that his greatest pleasure was in seeing Cardiff take the game to the current Championship leaders.

Speaking to the media in his post game press conference, the gaffer explained.

'During the international break, you`d have probably taken four points from the next two games against Derby and Burnley. But we`ve not come here just to take a point. You`ve seen that tonight, and the travelling fans, who were magnificent behind that goal, have come here and seen Cardiff City take the game to Burnley tonight. We came with a game plan and I thought we nullified their strengths and took good control of the game, creating some very good opportunities against a very good side.'

Slade went on to say that whilst two saves for goalkeeper David Marshall had been picked out by the hosts for being the reason why they didn't take all three points, he felt Cardiff could consider themselves unlucky not to have won also given the chances we fashioned and the problems we caused them.

'We caused them problems in their own box, and I would have been delighted if we`d taken the opportunity to wrap it up at the end. We got down the sides of them and caused them problems in the box but it just didn`t quite drop right. We`ve got real momentum at the minute and we`ve got to take as many points as we possibly can. With six matches left and eighteen points to play for, all we can control now is our next game. We`ll do our very best.'

With Anthony Pilkington going off in the game with what looked to be a serious knee injury, he was sent for a scan earlier this morning and there is no serious damage to the 27 year old's knee.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with our manager bragging about 0-0, 1-0 yes! :ayatollah:

Amazing Slade usually has the "tactically inept" narrative thrown at him, but when he comes up with a strategy to win a point at the home of the Championship leaders he is slagged off?

It's when he's obliged to attack the opposition he struggles as results against the teams at the bottom suggest?

What more has Russell got to do to win some people over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In circumstances that many other managers would have walked away from he has dug in and is giving us an exciting end of season run in that practically none of us expected.

We can all try to prove a point by isolating certain games and tagging the manager with a failure. Slade is not the only Championship manager to fail to score against low placed teams, recently we saw Rotherham get a result at Sheffield Wednesday and there are countless of other examples

We have to judge him good or bad by the overall output which is 7th in the Championship, with a realistic chance of making the play-offs with a handful of games to go. This was all achieved with the ongoing historical problems at the club of which none were of his making.

If he is so 'tactically inept' then he wouldn't be anywhere near a play-off challenge and in return he has cost us a fraction of the wages paid to other high profile managers.

Or perhaps thats what the stats revealed maybe?

A point away to the league leaders who have only lost something like 3 games all season at home, is a good point at any time of the season.
