Would you give Russell slade a new contract? POLL.

Wed Apr 06, 2016 2:14 pm

I personally would give him a new contract and some money to spend in the summer.

No as I don't think he would improve us I think he would keep us in the middle of the championship when he's been given money to spend (albeit small amount) his signings have been questionable we don't have a recognised striker which he has signed 3 and 2 are out on loan and 1 is constantly injured , Remember in January evryone was pretty much calling for his head and people saying the embargo was a blessing as it stopped Slade signing players this is why I dont think he would be good long term I would just say thanks for the job he's done and try and get someone else in to take us forward.

Also on a side note the youth needs a good looking at as Slade hasn't given any youth player a debut yet (whether thats down to Slade or the youth setup coaching staff it needs to be addressed)

We were here in 2007 with Dave Jones,we all wanted him sacked.
Credit to slade he deserves can other chance.
Perhaps none if us know the exact problems post the relegation.
Changing post season would cause more diusruption.

Deserves a 1 year deal. Would like to see a director of football appointed to oversee transfers and ensure academy runs well.

Absolutely not.

Why not - I think he has done a good job considering all the behind the scenes issues he's had to deal with.

What I would suggest though is NOT offering Scott Young a renewal...... :sladein:

No I wouldn't.

He's done an ok job this season but I think most of the success has almost been despite him than because of him. By his own admission he wanted to keep Mason and if he'd kept playing him we would not have been anywhere near the play-offs.

Pilkington up front was forced upon him by a lack of options. Immers he dropped after he scored in his first game and he only got back in because of injuries and suspensions. His signings in the transfer market have been generally poor especially the strikers most of whom have either been sold or loaned out.

Took much too long to get O'Keefe in the team.

I just look at what Warnock has done at Rotherham - no funds to buy players, in the bottom three of the division when he took over, a squad that is far less talented than the one Slade has at his disposal and yet they've won something like five games out of the last seven!

That's the sort of manager we need if we really want to get promoted next season.

I'd thank Slade for his efforts and look for someone who can get the job done - for me, Slade is not that man.

Whatever anyone's opinion is, he has earned the right to another year.
As much as we're just about fighting above expectations, how many managers fail spectacularly or do not deliver to expectations? If we were lower than 8th I'd be saying "Slade Out" but we're doing slightly better than that so he's delivering.

With all the circumstances surrounding the club nobody can deny that he has done a good job. We all seem to have an itching doubt about Russ' which is his job to emphatically prove wrong next season. He deserves that opportunity as do his coaching team.

As much as Warnock and a few other older heads have achieved good things with smaller clubs, we have seen their record when they go to more established clubs. There's always a big fallout and no real long-term progression.

Perhaps Russell Slade's softly spoken approach is what's needed for the modern player.
Ranieri isn't a screamer and shouter and I can list some more:

Eddie Howe
Pellegrini
Hughton
Martinez

These guys are hardly known as scary people... They get strong team spirit and build around that they seem to have a long-term plan. Whilst we're all screaming for younger players to be brought into the team, Slade hasn't really had much of an opportunity to. The squad has been so bloated that giving youth players the opportunity to demand first team football and wages has been impossible. Next season may see the introduction of players like John, O'Sullivan and Deji

Good post for me.
The one thing he's done - at long last - is get the players looking like they want to play and putting the effort in but it's taken him all this time to do that. For most of his tenure it's been a joke.

Re: Would you give Russell slade a new contract? POLL.

Thu Apr 07, 2016 7:45 am

Yes.

We have been down the highly paid manager route before and it either got us ripped off in the transfer market big time, relegated or in the same position in Championship as we are now.

Slade is a safe pair of hands and the supposition that the grass is greener with another highly paid manager is not a guaranteed route to either success or progression.

We need stability to build a Cardiff brand of football and progress youngsters through from the academy. Slade has only really blooded Joe Ralls so far from the youth ranks. That is probably due to the bloated squad he inherited and the circumstance surrounding the club over the past 18 months. A number of players will be moving on next season and that might open opportunities for the likes of Tommy O'Sullivan and Rhys Healey.

Now is not the time to change things and whatever happens Slade should stay.

For most of Slade's tenure he has been fighting fire's sorting out the mess left behind by previous highly paid managers. It is not always possible to change things overnight. Indeed it's taken 18 months but even that isn't exactly a long amount of time.
