Southampton monitoring Nurnberg's ex-Cardiff City winger Guido Burgstaller
Tuesday 5th April 2016
Winger Guido Burgstaller played five times for Cardiff City last season but the Austrian has impressed for 2. Bundesliga team Nurnberg this term and the 26-year-old has scored 11 in 27 league games after struggling in Wales
Club scout Bill Green watched the former Cardiff City forward during Nurnberg's 3-0 win at FSV Frankfurt on Sunday and Southampton were also represented as the 26-year-old played for Austria in their 2-1 defeat against Turkey last week.
Burgstaller has impressed this season, scoring 11 goals in 27 games for Nurnberg in the German second division and has one year left on contract.
In May 2014, Burgstaller joined Cardiff City on a three-year deal from Rapid Vienna as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second signing of the summer after Javi Guerra. However, Burgstaller made just five appearances for the Welsh club and on January 26, 2015 left Cardiff by mutual consent.

I liked him. He always looked a decent player when he was on the pitch he just never really got a chance to show what he could really do with a run in the team because our tactics/formations didnt allow for a player like him .

He's definitely one of the players I would have liked to have seen more of and wished was given more of a run in the team.
He looked perfect for the Championship to me with his strong running style and work ethic.

He was a kind of 'false' winger, I 'm sure. About as fast as Whitts, but with an eye for goal. Sure it wasn't Southend rather than Southampton?

How is Guerra faring this season?
His non selection was a disgrace, and a joke.

Ole took us back three years signing way to many players, I can't remember if it was him that signed him, but with so many players we had to offload some to start again and build a team.
There is always a chance that a reasonable player will leave and be successful elsewhere, but the majority don't seem to have set the world alight, and as stated above, attitude also comes into the decisions.
Anyway he's gone now so let's be positive and look at the good players we have kept and signed, we are moving in the right direction !!!!
