A forum for all things Cardiff City

So good to see all the kids, old and new fans yesterday. It highlights once again how crucial marketing is in this day and age, granted the tickets were free for many but you have to invest in your future and compete with other things families can do in a Saturday.
The balance needs to be right, but rewarding season ticket holders yesterday the club got the balance right as most got to take family or friends. Free kids via the schools or current ST members, family packages for certain games next season can all be fantastic for our football club. They have finally woken up and realised this, hardcore will always go but lots need tempting in.
Well done CArdiff city, I took 3 kids yesterday and while they were going to attend anyway it allowed me purchase food and drinks before the match that would have paid for my tickets, felt I was getting something back from club.
10/10

Good post. I saw a lot of fans that haven't been down for a while yesterday, one even told me after the game how much he's missed the match day experience, and will be returning. A lot better atmosphere too, that's got to be right.
Well done Cardiff City FC.

It took the club 4 years to realise you can't treat supporters like shite and get away with it.
Many fans have been lost and some will never return
However the transformation from top to bottom from the club has been huge in the last 6 months and they deserve massive credit for that
Unfortunately it's easy to get big crowds by giving tickets away...turning the freebies into paying customers is the next task
Hopefully the indications are that we will sell more season tickets than last year which will be a good start

It proves that fans are also staying away because of ticket prices. Give out free tickets and they will all turn out.
I would love to see all tickets for home games reduced to £10 a game from now until the end of season.

I agree but it's a step in the right direction, absolutely no doubt yesterday will only benefit the club going forward and some might not get season tickets but it could well increase our walk up attendance.

A lot of our traditional support comes from the valleys. As we know, there are high levels of unemployment there, and those lucky enough to be in a job are often on the minimum wage. I have a relative who took his 3 children yesterday. This was the first time any of those children had been to the CCS, not out of choice but for financial reasons. I have been saying for quite a while that football is pricing those traditional fans out of the game, and while clubs obviously cannot give away bucket loads of free tickets for every game, reducing prices to a level where everyone can afford to go is bound to result in bigger gates. That would have a knock on effect with a better atmosphere, louder support would probably be worth a few points in a season, and that would mean even more fans following the club. I think all clubs need to take a long hard look at their ticket prices, and make football affordable to everyone again.

It's a no brainer. Better to have 25,000 in there paying £10 than 10,000 paying £25. Have to tap into schools more to get kids involved in the club too before they all get pulled into our neighbours! Free tickets for schools in top tier, why not fill it

I agree 100%. I would like to see something like the Junior Bluebird re-introduced as well. My children rarely missed a game in those days. I'm afraid that if they had been born later, at today's prices I would'nt have been able to take them to more than a couple of games a season.

These are all good posts this morning especially the view on the financial aspect from Steve.
However, be prepared for the miserable sods screaming 'plastics' at you. They can be seen down the City when they wear their medals around their necks.

why can't Cardiff show the rest of them how to price a football match fairly?
I don't know if crowds would drop off if they lowered the prices permanently. If the income is a bit lower but have an extra 5k watching every home match maybe it's worth the hit

Absolutely bang on totally agree.
I think even with the free tickets yesterday the club made bucket loads of money the club shop was packet and the chips and pies and beers were flying out they ran out of chips in the end .
The club have to look at ticket prices as in the long term the club fans and players gain from bigger gates.
The atmosphere was brilliant to long may the club continue moving forward well done ccfc and thanks.

And one of the major factors in making it such a successful day was.......
...............City won the game!
So often in the past when City had one-off big crowds (boxing day games, derby matches etc) the team always seemed to lose the game with the resutl that the next home game saw the crowd drop by about two thirds!
On a selfish note it's been quite a while since the queue for a half time slash was three deep!
