DERBY COUNTY MANAGER
01/04/16
Manager Darren Wassall took over the helm on February 8th when former Real Madrid coach Paul Clement was relieved of his duties due to a dip in the Rams’ form.
Wassall took the hot seat on Thursday to answer to the media ahead of the trip to South Wales. He said: “We had a few days off for the weekend to recharge our batteries for the eight big games coming up.
“It was good to go into the break in buoyant mood, beating Forest was a particularly good result and a great reaction. It was an important victory because we wanted to go into the last eight on a high. We have a big game against Cardiff Saturday and then a quick turnaround against Hull Tuesday.
“It’s important we improve on our away form, we’re aware we need to put our away form right and we will look to put it right Saturday. There’s no easy game and every single game is tough, it’s ‘who turns up on the day will be victorious.”
Wassall went on to talk about the Cardiff game in more detail. He added: “They’re on a decent run, I think they’ve lost two in 12 so we’re aware it’s going to be a tough game.
“it’s always a hard place to go and they’re looking to break into the top 6 so it’s important for us to make sure we’re really at it. We’re under no illusions, it’s a tough game but we’re ready for it.
Derby have been without young talent Will Hughes for the most-part of this season but Hughes is set to return in the near future according to Derby’s head coach.
Wassall said: “He (Hughes) played 45 minutes in the testimonial match last week. It’s (Cardiff) a little too soon but he’ll play at Craven Cottage Monday for the under 21s. He’s getting closer all the time.”
