There have been plenty of explanations offered as to why Cardiff City haven't quite been able to close the gap on the teams in the top six.
One fairly simple explanation is that they just haven't been able to beat them that often.
In nine games against the current top six, Cardiff have taken nine points from a possible 27.
That means a record of P9 W2 D3 L4.

Not dire, but not enough to seriously challenge for the top.
Of course, it is only fair to say Slade that has only played top six teams twice since introducing his new system against Wolves, with Pilkington up top and Whittingham drifting in from the left.
The results were mixed, a thumping 4-1 win over Brighton followed just days later by an insipid 3-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.
