KIWANIS International Foundation (KIF) president Mark B. Rabaut recently paid a visit to Berjaya Corporation Group of Companies founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and presented him with a legacy lead gift donor medallion and a token of appreciation.
26th March 2016
The medallion was presented in recognition of Tan’s contributions to the Eliminate Project totalling about RM800,000 (US$200,000 or c.£150,000).
Tan is one of the two lead donors in Asia-Pacific who have donated more than US$100,000 to the project.
Through his contribution, about 110,000 mothers and babies would be vaccinated for tetanus.
Also present during the visit were Kiwanis Malaysia governor Datuk Fatimah Saad, KIF treasurer Hwang Chia Sing, Kiwanis Asia-Pacific chairman Lee Kuan Yong and Berjaya Corporation Bhd chairman and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Robin Tan.
The Eliminate Project is a global health campaign by KIF in partnership with Unicef to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).
The project aims to raise US$110mil (RM4.4bn or £78m) and save the lives of 129 million mothers and their future babies.
As at February 2016, KIF had raised US$107mil (RM4.3bn or £76m) in cash and pledges.
MNT has been among the most common lethal consequences of unclean deliveries and umbilical cord care practices.
When tetanus develops, mortality rates are extremely high, especially when appropriate medical care is not available.
By targetting this disease, KIF will not only save lives but also pave the way for other interventions that will boost maternal health and child survival among the poorest, most underserved women and children in the world.

I thought so, too!
Vincent Tan gets a lot of 'stick' on here for his past errors in running the club but (as certain Cardiff based charities know all too well) he has another side to his character and more than does his bit for others

Yes totally agree!
It would have been nice to have seen some positive posts from some of his continual detractors. He has given plenty to Welsh good causes too.
