The former Sunderland winger was jailed for six years today after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl

d former footballer Adam Johnson has been stripped of his England caps, his lawyer claimed in court.

The former Sunderland winger was sentenced to five years for the charge of sexual activity with a child, and an additional 12 months for grooming.

And Johnson's lawyer said in court that the 28-year-old, who played 12 times for England's senior side, has had his caps taken away from him.


Orlando Pownall QC said of his client: “He has been stripped of his England caps, some might say rightly so. He has lost a lucrative career he will never be able to retrieve.

His legal team claimed he had been stripped of the caps but sources from the FA say it is not true.

She didn't get raped. She was a sexually active teenager who wanted it. Johnson done wrong but far worse gets done daily worldwide.
