Cardiff City set for biggest crowd of the season as more than 20,000 expected for Derby County clash

FRIDAY 25 MAR 2016

BY STEVE TUCKER

The club has offered two free tickets to anyone who has purchased a season ticket

Cardiff City are on course for a bumper, biggest crowd of the season for their next Championship clash against Derby in the Welsh capital.

The Bluebirds are hoping more than 20,000 fans will be at the match to cheer thir side on thanks to a surge in sales of season tickets for next season.

As part of an aggressive ticketing policy, the Welsh club is offering two free tickets for the Rams’ clash on April 2 to everyone who purchases a new season ticket. That is on top of other incentives which include lower prices in all areas and a two-year price freeze on anyone who buys a season ticket before April 4.

The club say there has been a promising number of season ticket sold already and they are selling at the fastest rate since the 2011-12 campaign when the Bluebirds reached the League Cup final and the Championship play-offs.

Unconfirmed reports suggest 8,000 season tickets have already been sold for next term with the hope that could rise to around 15,000 this summer. Last season the club sold around 10,000.

This is fantastic news and will really give us a boost if we all get behind the team :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Thursday 24th March 2016

Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo and Joe Ralls reflect on positive news...

Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to confirm that 2016/17 Season Tickets are selling at a very promising rate ahead of the April 4th ‘Price Freeze’ deadline.

With a reduction to current prices in all zones and junior and student (aged 25 & under) prices starting from as little as £49 and £99 respectively (BUY HERE), Bluebirds fans have been visiting the Ticket Office at a steady rate to commit for the ‘16/17 campaign.

Of additional appeal has been the offer of two free tickets (to new or renewing ‘16/17 Season Ticket holders) to our upcoming game with Derby County on April 2nd – a fixture that could propel City further forward in the race for the end of season Play-Offs. As things stand, we anticipate a season-best attendance of over 20,000 for the game.

Of further promise, the Club is selling Season Tickets at a faster rate than the 2011/12 season – a campaign during which supporters will remember us reaching the League Cup Final and the Championship Play-Offs. Since tickets went on sale on March 1st, the Ticket Office has reported sales of over three hundred a day on a number of occasions.

Speaking to cardifficityfc.co.uk on Thursday afternoon, Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo said: “I’m delighted to hear that Season Ticket sales are very healthy as we edge closer to the price freeze deadline on April 4th. These are positive times for the Club and long may that continue.

“As a Club, we’re thrilled to see our supporters turning out in force for us as we continue our Play-Off push. The game against Derby on April 2nd could well be our biggest of the season to date, so to have a bumper crowd set to attend that one will be a huge bonus to the team.”

City midfielder Joe Ralls added: “We’re all focussed on the game with Derby now and have heard that we’re expecting over 20,000 for the first time this season. That’s fantastic news.

“It’s great for us as players to come out and see the place bouncing - it gives us a real lift.”

Yes but how many would actually come if they were not giving free tickets away

Sad state of play when free tickets have to be given away to fill the stadium

Club can't win here, people moan that there's no people coming to the games anymore, the club decides to do something about it by giving away free tickets with new season tickets to try and reconnect with the missing fans and now people are moaning they are only coming because they are free.

There's going to be a decent crowd for a change and perhaps the missing fans that come get the bug again and we'll get our stadium rocking once more. Great idea by the club and I for one welcome it.

The important thing now is for the team to perform in the fixture vs. Derby. Over the years we have had a bit of a habit of fluffing our lines in front of bigger than normal crowds for League matches (e.g. Boxing Day games etc.)

I'm bring along some guests on the back of the free ticket offer and it would be brilliant if we could put on a show in front of the missing fans.

Agree.
The guys at the club are trying hard to rekindle the passion.

Hopefully it'll be a great day and a few will be tempted to come to the QPR, Bolton and Brum games.

I hope we get 25k+

This is all good stuff. No doubt some of the freebie seats will be empty on the day, but look forward to perhaps a 2/3 full stadium.
