Can Slade get Peter Whittingham fit and ready?
By Phil Smith
Russell Slade has rightly won praise for finding a system that has brought balance and threat to his Cardiff side, but it does not look anywhere near as threatening without the City legend.
Danny Gabbidon told us that he sees the new formation as a lopsided 4-4-2, a variation on Slade’s favoured style.
Whittingham is the key, adding excellent crossing from the flank but being comfortable drifting infield to help recycle possession and make it harder for his team to be caught on the counter.
His set-pieces continue to make the difference time and time again. His corner for Bruno Manga against Ipswich was inch pefect, as was the free-kick that sealed the points against Huddersfield. Getting him ready for the Derby game is a must.
