BE VERY CAREFUL GETTING A TAXI IN TOWN!!

My mate got in a taxi on the rank by the borough Saturday night.He asked the driver(somalian origin) to take him to trowbridge and my mate knew the fare is usually around £14-16.When they got to the bottom of city road my mate noticed his meter was off and pointed this out immediately.The driver said he knew the fare off by heart so no need for the meter but when they got to trowbridge he said that's £25!! My mate said he's not paying that so the driver took off and told my mate he was driving him to a guy he knows, who would f**k him up.My mate gave up and handed him £25 and had to walk back over a mile.These fuckers are destroying the taxi trade,right dangerous lot of con merchants.All somalies, muslims or eastern Europeans-"BE CAREFUL"

All Muslims, mostly Somali and Bangladeshi, mostly wankers. I bet it was dragons taxis too. Great service right up until you meet the tw*t of a driver who can barely utter a word of English. This sort of behaviour does not surprise me, most of the dragon taxi drivers behave like this.

To counter your generalised and sadly racist remarks, I got a cab to Ystrad Mynach after the rugby on Friday night from what used to be The Monument bottom of St Mary St; cabbie was of the origins you describe, I asked him the fare and he told me exactly the right amount I usually pay after midnight from that spot.

He even woke me up coming into the village so I could get 'organised' getting in the house.

People are people - good, bad, indifferent I find race has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Saturday night we got stung by the most expensive taxi I've ever gone home in, a minimum of £10 (usually £15-£20) more than I usually have to pay.

I got a taxi in Mexico last week for just over a 35minute journey! $90 USD!!!

Most taxi drivers in Cardiff don't even know where they are taking you unless you give them line and verse and specific instructions , let alone being able to speak English

When he said I know the fare off by heart surely the natural response would be to ask what the fare was?

I always use private high, book in advance and Cabs64 have never let me down

Should have got his badge no. or reg no. and report him to the council. He probably shares his licence with half his family!

If theres no meter you don't have to pay that's the rules, just ring the police or say your ringing them if your being taken for a mug and the tune will change, simple really

I use the train or private hire firms that I know. I'm sorry to say but I don't like getting in Cardiff taxis driven by muslims. Its a sad thing to say but that's the way things have driven me.

New Years Day, 2001. Went to get a taxi from the General, (Central),Station to Lydstep Flats, Gabalfa, where I was living at the time. Local, white, driver quoted me £15. Told me something about it being a Bank Holiday. Told him it was a bit expensive, so he started knocking the price down. Couldn't be bothered arguing, so walked home. Never been in a Cardiff taxi since. Rip off at best, dangerous, going by some of the posts on here, at worst.

Why didn't he call the police? Kidnapping and threatning behaviour at least. See what he would have done then. I personally would have started booting the windows out see how long he wanted to drive then.

Uber will be in Cardiff soon and if it works like London then;

- clean modern cars
- no fares, payment taken by mobile app

Uber can't come soon enough as the Taxi service within Cardiff especially at night is a disgrace to our City.

I agree uber can't come quick enough. There are lots of good cabbies in Cardiff, many born here many not.
Unfortunately a few really let the service down. They should all be able to speak good English fir starters,in my opinion they should know stuff about the city they drive people around in too, most don't. I wonder what first time visitors who jump in a cab might think when mr happy picks them up and can barely speak let alone tell them anything. How anyone can stay in a cab without the metre on is beyond me.

I'll never forget me and a mate jumping in a cab once on anjuna beach in Goa, lovely Indian guy took us south through all of Goa into the next state down to Gokarna. Took about 7 hours, stopped for lunch, telling us all about Goa etc, cost £15 between us.
Yeah we could of got a train for a lot less but we fancied splashing out. Cost more to get to most cardiff suburbs these days.

Its not regulated tho and we just take it as if its everyday matter. I just come back from Athens for few days and all taxis over there work off the same meter readings. They will tell you in advance how much it will be approx. and they were always bang on. We did have one where the meter wasn't working and he told us in advance its up to us, either go with his approximate reading or to use another taxi. 20 minute journey and he said 7 Euros!

Its what this country comes to expect, no challenge and just accept were being steam-rollered into a strange culture!

How will über change things? Won't it be same drivers??
