Has Sammy Ameobi got something to offer?

Tuesday 22nd March 2016

By Phil Smith

One player who took his chance from the bench in spectacular fashion against Reading was Sammy Ameobi, darting straight from the dug-out to the opposition goal, with Lex Immers converting his effort off the post.

He has been a bit-part player ever since being sent off in farcical fashion against Charlton, shooting after the whistle had been blown in the final minute.

One goal in 35 games is just not good enough for a player with Premier League pedigree, and many would argue that others in the squad have earned a chance ahead of the Newcastle man.

They might be right, but performances talk, and if Ameobi can replicate his Madejski fireworks, Slade will be forced to find a role for him. As ever with Ameobi, however, that can never be guaranteed.

Not for me. A great run to create the goal versus Reading, but has offered little in reality since he has been here!

It would be fair to say that Lex Immers has created more of an impact in one month than Ameobi has over the season to date ;)

if we could get him on a lot cheaper wages and a low transfer fee i would sign him. clearly has ability there amd still only 23. just needs a rocket up his backside to get him trying harder. as soon as he set up goal on saturday he believed he had done his bit then seemed to stop !
i think hes got potential to be a top championship player. wether we can sort his sttitude out is another thing, a top manager would

Complete waste of a loan signing. We should never have signed someone with his medical condition let alone someone who is also shit at football

Wasted season for Sammy and us. He is a 433 forward and we play him as a 442 midfielder.

Just don't think the system suits him.

He has shown glimpses of quality.

Reminds me of Wilf when he was here, you could see the potential but just not enough.

Let's face it, his contribution against Reading would be ruled out more often than not for handball, however, it was very much welcome.

It's no suprise Newcastle are in dire straights when players with little going for them are deemed worthy of a new contract.

Yes he does have something to offer and I think now the formation is more suited to him with a more settled side.

He seems to be one of those players who is developing perhaps at a slower pace than others and it's difficult for players like that on loan where expectations are high.

I think he has done well recently.

Too much of a luxury. Get rid ASAP.
