Lawrence or Noone?

By Phil Smith

Tuesday 22nd March 2016

Providing Peter Whittingham does return, it seems more than likely that one of these two will have to drop out.

So who should make the cut? Two similar players, both with the priceless ability to glide past a man and create something out of nothing. Both can be inconsistent, however, and it is difficult to accommodate both in one line-up, as the Reading draw demonstrated.

Lawrence has been a welcome addition and shown why Russell Slade was so keen to snatch him from under Blackburn’s noses. He has been unlucky not to land his first goal, but the feeling remains that his best position is not clear.

Cardiff drew a blank in the two games he played through the middle, but he was excellent off the right against Brighton.

Noone, meanwhile, has not quite been able to kick on from that virtuoso display against Wolves, mainly due to that frustrating injury. Still, he remains one of the few matchwinners in this Cardiff squad.

Lawrence.....a stronger player than no one.. :ayatollah:

Lawrence for me, more direct and stronger, doesn't seem to get bullied off the ball.

I'd bring Noone on last 30 once Lawrence starts to tire.

Lawrence stronger than Noone ? is that a joke
Noone for me, hes our player. would rather play our own to loan players

Lawrence for me. I think he has far more tricks up his sleeve than Noone.

9 times out of 10 Noone just cuts inside and shoots. By the law of averages every now and then one goes in (yes, Tan is correct) but most of the time he does little more than concede possession. He frustrates the hell out of me because he does have the ability to get to the byeline and put in some crosses, but he does not do it often enough or vary his game enough. And I sometimes get the impression that he is playing for himself rather than the team.

There is more to come from Lawrence who I think would benefit from a run of games to give him confidence. I know it should not enter the equation, but I do like to see a Welsh player in the team.

Yes he is and the idea of loans is to bolster your squad...no one hasn't performed this season....and maybe if Lawrence continues to impress maybe we can buy.....no one has had a couple of good games but not consistent.. :ayatollah:

Just because you have a different opinion why do you say other opinions are a joke?

I think Noone is way too light weight, what's wrong with that?

Lawrence to start.

Noone seems to make more of an impact when he's not played for 90 mins every game.

Lawrence for me Noone is too predictable.

get your facts right keyboard warrior, i asked if it was a joke not saying someone is a joke !
anyone who went to Reading on saturday seen how weak Lawrence was. hit off the ball loads of times. Slade should have brought him off not Noone

my honest opinion is Noone is playing on wrong side. was great for us on the left. when hes on the right then he just cuts inside on his stronger foot

Keyboard worrior? Shut up you tart.

Read it again before you get your knickers in a twist, I was on about the opinion in the first place.

Noone summed up our whole midfield on Saturday as was the case at Bristol City, poor in the tackle and real lack of bite, note Readings goal and Noone's in ability to tackle it was embarrassing.

The other thing with Noone as previously mentioned he hasn't got the pace to go outside a full back and if your marking him you know the only way he is going to go is inside regardless of what wing he is on.

For me Noone is not strong enough and whilst i think its the midfield that's going to cost us and i had to choose then its Lawrence for me.

Lawrence all day long until the real Craig Noone shows up.
Amazing on his day.

Lawrence - Pace kills.

But in truth neither. I never was a Malky fan but he firmed my belief that jinky little wingers were an entertainment thing of the past. Lawrence is a quicker more direct 433 player and with Whitts shoring up the midfield 2 to a lopsided 433 he is the best player for that formation.

For the four worldlys that Noone produces a season we have to endure 100's of wasted opportunities because he has no final ball.

Its a toughie alright but something that seemingly not many of you have thought about is Noone gets goals and that seems to be missing from Lawrance's game at the moment.

It's the case of Craig Noone coming off the bench and having a blinder then gets his start and wastes it, been a theme of his time here on times.

Best performances lately have been when Lawrence starts. More direct than Noone and less wasteful. Lawrence doesn't seem to play as well when switched to left and would play him right and whitts left. I like Noone as an impact player especially when their defenders are tiring. When he starts he tends to drift in and out and our possession stats tend to drop it seems as he gives the ball away too easily.

I agree with this

I think Lawrence has far greater skill and awareness, but needs to score. In terms of getting goals I'd pick Nooney, but for overall play Lawrence.
