The Bluebirds head into the international break knowing they face a must-win game against Derby County on April 2
Cardiff City lost ground in the play-off race – but Russell Slade will tell his Bluebirds stars to make sure they take a giant step towards the top six when they face Derby next month.
The Bluebirds head into the international break having seen Lex Immers claw back a point at the Madejski Stadium after Gareth McCleary put Reading ahead.
But wins for Sheffield Wednesday and the Rams saw Slade's men take a step back in their play-off hopes, with the result meaning they are know three points shy of the promotion spots.
Still, with Derby – who celebrated director of football Harry Redknapp's arrival with a derby victory over Nottingham Forest – next up for Cardiff on April 2, Slade said: “It's a massive game for us. It's a bit frustrating because we came here looking to win but we can at least be pleased with the character we showed and the desire to turn a game around away from home.
“But we knew all our rivals were playing at home and we didn't want Wednesday or Derby winning.
“But we have a huge game in two weeks' time and we can look forward to it because a win can put us right back in it and can show how the pendulum will swing over these final weeks.
“And the qualities we showed here to get something from the game are going to be massively important for us in these last seven games.”
As will Lex Immers who Slade hailed as he netted his fourth goal in eight starts since arriving on loan from Feyenoord.
But Slade couldn't hide his frustration at the result, adding: “We started the game well but, without being able to put a finger on it, we let it go. We gave away possession too easily, looked fragile at the back at times and they had opportunities which we granted.
“We did start to grab hold of things again in the second-half and the changes made an impact and I thought we could take it after that, but it became end to end and either side could have won it.”
