Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Joe Mason from Cardiff City in the January transfer window.
Kenny Jackett has admitted to the Express and Star that Joe Mason’s transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers hasn’t worked out as he was anticpating so far.
Mason was brought to Wolves from Cardiff City in the January transfer window, and the striker was the Midlands club’s marquee addition, following the departure of Benik Afobe.
However, Mason has struggled for starts in recent weeks, with most his appearances coming as a substitute.
Jackett admits that he had hoped that Mason would make a bigger immediate impact, but he says that he has not been able to find him an effective partner at the club yet.
"I envisaged him coming in and being able to play all of the time,” Jackett explained.
“It hasn’t worked that way. I don’t think I’ve found the right combination around him all of the time.
“Also, certainly on two occasions, he’s been effective coming off the bench for us as well. Do we want to work towards him being in the team? Yes we do.”
Mason made a great start to his Wolves career, scoring in the first 10 minutes of his debut, but things have slowed down since.
The 23-year-old has dropped down the pecking order, and he was only given five minutes during Wolves' 0-0 draw against Birmingham City last weekend.
Mason could have another chance to impress this weekend, though, with Wolves set to take on high flying Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Should Mason start for Wolves against Burnley?

Great business by the club, £3mil is unbelievable. Well done to whoever sat in negotiations on that one

I found this one really weird right from the start.
Wolves must have had Mason watched this season

Even if they rated him (I don't but it's all down to opinion) and thought he was the type of player for them surely they must have recognised that he was worth £750K - £1m max. The amount of money they've paid for him is almost embarassing
Oh well, makes a nice change for us to be the club benefiting from such a deal

Agree with you, ThomasC
Great piece of business and Kenny Jackett may be surprised (maybe even disappointed given his job is now on the line) that the move (quote)
"hasn't worked out as expected" but I don't think too many attending fans at the CCS will be!
I really do wish Joe Mason well (his goal versus Liverpool at Wembley is permanently etched in my mind) but at £3m, I think Cardiff City FC had by far the better end of the deal...for once!

No disrespect to Joe but it's nice to be on the positive end of a transfer turnover for once.
I'm surprised that wolves haven't contacted the FA about us robbing them!
The kenwyn lovers in here must be on smack. Because he was even worse!
We still have a striker problem here but to dig out slade for
Getting rid of the striker shite we had (including his own mistakes in Doyle and revel) was naive.
The players didn't work out and he got rid. That's management on a budget.
