" WOULD IT BE THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT EVER IN UK FOOTBALL? "

Tue Mar 15, 2016 6:40 pm

Leicester City are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with eight games to go.

I have read some people saying that if they go on to win it, it would be the biggest achievement ever in UK football.

So that is my question, has there ever been a bigger achievement in your opinion - or would this be the biggest?

There have been bigger cup upsets, however they are one off games.

If they win the Premiership with the money some clubs spends it would be incredible and something most football fans would love to see.

If Arsenal beat Barca by 3 goals tomorrow that will be the biggest achievement :o

If Leicester City won the league, then it would be the greatest achievement in English football since 1993. However, football did not start that year. Plenty happened before that.

What were they at the start 5000/1 or something  never known anything of that sort coming in in my lifetime in any sport :ayatollah:

That's a fair point when you consider teams like Preston and Huddersfield have won the old First Division. I'm old enough to remember Nottingham F coming from the old Second Division to win the title back in the 70's and they went on to famously win the European Cup.

However, I would still consider Leicester's triumph one of the greatest achievements ever. They have been lucky in that the usual suspects Man C, Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal have for whatever reason blown a gasket in their own title aspirations leaving Spurs as their main rivals.

Also a final word on the manager Claudio Ranieri. Who would have believed he would have made it to Christmas never mind the title. Coming on the back of a terrible time at Greece where they lost home and away to the Faroe Islands! he has reinvented himself and done a brilliant job, which is something I never saw coming.

There has been bigger upset in cup games but look at the odds for that day Yeovil beat Man City would be maybe 25/1 but to do it over 40 games is much bigger why the odds were 5000/1 . In my view it is up there as one of the best if not the best achievement in football history

I’m routing for them, weren’t they 5000/1 at the start of the season, amazing and its hard not to like Ranieri as well

Its right up there for sure but still doesnt come close to what Clough acheived with Forest (promotion to top flight, win the league, win the European Cup, successfully defend European Cup) but with the amount of money in football creating a super elite across Europe that will never happen again and Leicester's achievements is as close as we will get (and a fantastic thing for football on the whole) :ayatollah:

They were backed by Jack Walker who was the first sugar daddy in the PL, spent a fortune by the standards of the time. Not sure why it went to shit after that though.

It would be truly amazing if they win it. I'm backing them all the way, nice to see a rags to riches story.
Their recruitment of players has been outstanding, Ranieri has gI've them total belief....when you look at the likes of Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Man City and the money they've spent....hats off to Leicester!

A Leicester City fan is keeping her fingers crossed her team can clinch the Premier League title on Sunday - so she can cash in a £10,000 winning bet.

It seemed the unlikeliest bet in football before the start of the season when Karishma Kapoor decided to put £2 on last season's relegation strugglers to top the league this time around, at odds of 5,000-1.

But the foxes are now just three points from clinching the title, and will be crowned champions as early as Sunday if they defeat Manchester United.

Karishma told Sky News her whole family are big Leicester fans, and she thought a £1 bet for her, and another £1 for her aunty, were worth a punt.

"It's been very tense and we have all been on edge waiting to see if they can do it," said Karishma.

"My family have stayed optimistic and so have I. We just believe. Foxes believe."

If Leicester City do get the three points they need to clinch the title, Karishma says she will go on holiday, and help her brother watch Champions League matches next season.

it is not only the biggest upset in football, but also in all sport..........name one occasion when the odds were bigger than 5000/1? it is smaller odds to find Elvis alive (no joke) :bluebird:
