totally agree think people are looking back through rose tinted glasses ,so games were big and great but mostly the atmosphere was Shitlitoblues wrote:I STARTED FOLLOWING CARDIFF CITY IN 1982, AND EXCEPT FOR A FEW GREAT OCCASIONS, I DONT REMEMBER THE ATMOSPHERE BEING THAT BRILLIANT..OF COURSE THERE WAS LEEDS 2002 , MAN CITY 1993ISH , A FEW SWANSEA GAMES, EVEN THOUGH I PREFERRED THEM GAMES AT THE VETCH. THE BEST WAS WALES V SCOTLAND 1985, THAT WAS INCREDIBLE.. MOST OTHER GAMES WERE NOTHING SPECIAL, IN FACT I REMEMBER ON A LOT OF OCCASIONS YOU COULD HERE THE PLAYERS SHOUTING TO EACH OTHER, IT WAS THAT QUIET..MAYBE IT IS HUMAN NATURE THAT IT ALWAYS SEEMED BETTER IN OUR YOUTH,, WHO KNOWS. PERHAPS THE YOUTH OF TODAY WILL REMINISCE ABOUT THE CCCS

However, those present were mostly standing, adult blokes who wanted to be there because they were so proud of their shitty club. For me, the Leeds FA Cup game is still the best atmosphere i've ever experienced anywhere.
Fast forward to the Premiership and an all seater stadium and those hardened old loyal fans are outnumbered by thousands of families with kids and glory fans with no heart for the club.
Not a criticism aimed anywhere but isnt this modern football??
Interesting that only now when our crowds are pathetically low are we seeing some fight and pride in the stands??

Ninian Park had a capacity of over 50,000 back then too but I can only remember it being that rammed once when Arsenal came to town for an FA Cup tie late 60's.
