Revealed - The best and worst-supported Championship clubs

Sat Mar 12, 2016 8:03 am

The numbers have been crunched to find the fullest grounds and biggest average turnouts...
Bristol City fill their stadium more than any other Championship club.

Despite their struggles against relegation this season the Robins boast a 91% fill rate of Ashton Gate, amounting to an average gate of 15,178 in their 16,600-capacity home, which is undergoing redevelopment. Derby (87% – 29,481/33,597) and QPR (86% – 15,875/18,360) follow in second and third.

At the other end, MK Dons bemoan the lowest ratio of fans to capacity (42%) in their 30,500-seater stadium:mk, with just 12,803 trundling through the turnstiles on average.

Cardiff (43.3% – 14,429/33,280) and Blackburn (43.5% – 13,656/31,367) make up the bottom three.

Clubs with larger grounds are expected to fall down in this measurement, such as Leeds (40,204), Sheffield Wednesday (39,814) and Middlesbrough (34,742), but in reality the trio have the third-, fourth- and fifth-best attendances in the second tier this season behind Derby and Brighton.

Not shocked we're low down. We normally have at least 18,000 empty seats now. But to be in the bottom two on that is embarrassing compared to where we were a few years go.

But not good that clubs like Charlton and Huddersfield are ahead of us.

Didn't realise QPR filled their stadium that much, even though they've been mid-table all season.

After crowds going from 27,500 to 12,000 at home games, this was expected to see us in the bottom 3 of the Championship.

Sad to see.

Cardiff (43.3% – 14,429/33,280) and Blackburn (43.5% – 13,656/31,367) make up the bottom three.

Be interesting to see where we would be on actual attendances rather than % of stadium capacity
Bristol only win becouse they have a huge stand closed under construction

You can bend figures to suit any argument

CCFC being towards the top of the deserted stadiums chart, (capacity/attendance ratio) there is no argument. What figures do you disagree with.?

Middelsborough is a shocker. They have been right up there for a few seasons and have played a good brand of football in that time. The city hasn't really got behind them looking at the chart. Goes to show the pitfalls of having oversized stadiums at this level.

Thomas you obviously see something I never said
Where do I disagree with any figures
I'm all for opinions and debate
But don't make out I said something or inferred something ,that I haven't

I just said it would be interesting to see how other figures would look
As annis has pointed out
In one table we are not bottom three
Get my point now

On just average attendance figures we stand in 18th position (14,429), Bolton are in 17th position (14,963) and Bristol City 16th (15,178). Those figures do not include Tuesday nights attendances which would increase our average to 14,471 still in 18th position. Derby have the highest average 29,481 and there is no surprise there are they are normally in the top two or three but Brighton are currently down 2,300 on attendances from a couple of season despite spending most of the season in the top 2.

Middlesbrough are up on attendances from previous season but still only average 23,605 which is not far above the 22,998 we averaged at home the season we won the Championship. We all know that our attendance figures are down on where we have been since we moved into the CCS but there is a direct link between the loss of 8,000 ST holders and the drop in average attendances.

Hopefully the reduced ST prices will see us recover a good % of the missing thousands.

Crazy that Bolton are above us Annis but credit their fans for sticking with them. Our missing ST holders need to take a long hard look at themselves if they think they are Cardiff fans it's not like we have been in the bottom 3 all season.

Far from that.

That's pretty shocking to be fair, but only backs up my own personal opinion that Cardiff is nowhere near a football City. On a day like today, barring the 12000 who will turn up at CCS, I would wager that most who normally consider themselves Cardiff City football supporters will be more interested in the Wales v England rugby game, you cannot say the same about any of those clubs mentioned like Bolton etc. Those clubs supporters are only interested in the club and international football teams.

What we got now I believe are the hardcore fans from last few seasons at ninian park and to be honest though I would like to see more fans I'm enjoying it more with the fans we got now Tuesday was a good example when we clapped team off field when we had the glory hunters etc they would have booed heckled the team in my opinion of course :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

That's a sad situation. But at least the club are addressing the issue. Hopefully upturn in crowds next season with cheaper ST. Only problem with that is you get people like the bell end who used to sit behind me for the last 2 years. And just talk shit to his mate all game . About his massive house and his kitchen extension etc. And always about the bloody egg. Funny haven't seen him this year! !!!

Figures don't take into account low away support at our stadium compared to midland teams! Eg Leeds 900 here when on a sat It can be 4 or 5 k nearer home, massive difference to attendance's. Having said this still poor for us, :old:
