What is going on at Newcastle??

Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:42 pm

What is going on at Newcastle? For such a massive Club to be in their Predicament, it is unbelievable that they could be playing Championship football next season!

So, what of Newcastle? Can Steve McLaren be blamed for where they are? Is it the Board? The Players? The Fans?

Steve McLaren has a wealthy CV to his name: Managed at Manchester Utd before managing at what can only be described as the biggest Job in the Country-the National side. That ended badly as he left after failing to Qualify for a Major tournament after, a disasterous performance against Croatia at Wembley, where he was dubbed: "the wally with the brolly." Stints in Germany and Holland where he managed his Team to the Dutch Title, bagging a nice little Dutch accent into the hat.

He returned to Derby where he spent a lot of their Money only to fail to get Derby to the Premiership. So, Newcastle give him the most prized job in the Premiership.

He spent huge Sums bringing in Giorginio Wijnaldum, Aleksander Mitrovic, Jonjo Shelvey, Daryl Janmaat, Ayzone Perez, Jack Colback, Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Gabrial Obertan and Jaamal Lacelles to name a few.

Big name Players on big Money just have not cut it at that level or, met the Fans's ecpectations. Is it that this Side just wasnt good enough or McLaren's tactics were not up to scratch? There is not doubt this Squad have undoubted ability but ultimately it was their lack of Points on the pitch that cost McLaren the ignominy of getting 'the Sack' from Newcastle :digging2:

In what way is it inconceivable Newcastle, a team who were playing Champiosnhip football back in 2010 could go back to that 6 years later?

McLaren coached at Utd it's very different to managing.

He was a bottler at Derby and that got him a job at Newcastle which really was a huge rebuild, for a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

They bought English in January and everyone said they'd be fine because the English media is bias and look where it's got them worse again.

You aways hear from the Media how huge Newcastle is. Fan base yeah, but nowt else. How many sides have won top tier trophies since Newcastle won the Inner Cities Fairs Cup in 1969?

Living with 2 Geordies, and they hold a lot of responsibility at McClaren for where they are (as well as some responsibility at Mike Ashley). For today though, they are bouncing about Benitez being appointed :)

I can remember Newcastle being a staple in the old second division (what is now the Championship) back in the 1980's. In the early 90's they had to avoid defeat to Bristol Rovers on the final day of the season to keep out of Division Three (League 1 now)

It is only since John Hall started ploughing millions of £'s into them that they became a 'big club' and even then they seem to always fail at the business end of the season whether that is league titles, cup finals or avoiding relegation

Steve McLaren was always going to fail there. He did well at Middlesbrough but has basically failed at every (English) club since.

CARDIFF is a bigger city than Newcastle and has a bigger catchment area so which city has under performed?

Hardly a bigger catchment area. They are football mad up there and have galvanised the entire city to support them, Cardiff isn't football mad, never has been. In fact if it wasn't for the valleys we'd have f**k all support.

If they come down they'll piss the championship like they did last time.Too much quality for me to struggle in the championship.

I think Villa will too, but that could go either way. Sunderland always very strong at Championship level too. We need Norwich to come down really as it gives a better chance to go up next year.

The Cardiff Capital Region has been in the news recently and has a population of 1.5 million, more than Geordieland which has 3 clubs and Manchester and Liverpool who both have 2 Premiership clubs. As Capital of Wales we have underperformed for many years despite the area producing World class players like Bale,Ramsey,Bellamy and Giggs. I feel we should improve our Academy system so that we keep these players rather than buying foreign journeyman? Cardiff is a football hotbed but since the 1920's we have never been a top side.In the Premiership we sold out every game and we would if we ever returned but look what has happened this season? If God forbid we returned to the fourth division we would be lucky to average 5000. People will only support success that's why the rebrand was excepted and if we had remained in the Premiership we would still be red?
