Federico Macheda poised to join Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season - reports

Reports in Italy claim a deal until the end of the season has already been agreed

Macheda has struggled for Cardiff goals this season

Cardiff City's Italian striker Federico Macheda is on the verge of joining Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season, according to reports.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that a deal has already been sealed and will be announced imminently.

The former Manchester United starlet had been linked with a move away in January, with club sources admitting that they would listen to offers.

He stayed, but has failed to earn a spot in the first XI as Anthony Pilkington has been converted to be the Bluebird's main man up front.

He has made eight appearances for Cardiff this season, but is yet to score a goal.

He has made 21 league appearances in total since joining in 2014, with six goals.

The most recent of those was in the 2-1 win over Brentford in March last year, a game in which he also was issued with a red card.

The 24-year-old has recently warned Marcus Rashford to keep his feet on the ground after he emulated the Italian in making a spectacular start to his Old Trafford career.

Nottingham Forest have struggled for firepower all season thanks to a transfer embargo and will hope Macheda can boost their options and find form.

If true, makes sense. Hardly getting near our first team. Seems Pilkington, Zohore and Saadi are all ahead of him.

Shame, I feel, as I always thought he could do well.

Great finisher on his day but he's been injured this season and put on a few pounds. We need to get rid in the summer

Isn't he only on 8,000 a week? I remember reading somewhere he was actually really cheap. But had add ons like promotion and wage rise if promoted.
Personally I'd keep him because he's hell of a finisher

ONLY £8,000 A WEEK!!!! You do realise with pension..ni payments...bonuses etc that's £2 million he will cost us over his 3 year contract

The guy has never broken into a sweat for the club....I certainly wouldn't call him cheap....complete and utter waste of money I would suggest

Nottingham Forest have signed Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda on loan, subject to international clearance.

The 24-year-old ex-Manchester United forward has not started a Championship match this season, with all but one of his eight appearances for the Bluebirds coming as a substitute.

Meanwhile, Forest midfielder David Vaughan has signed a one-year contract until the summer of 2017.

But Andre Moritz, who Forest were chasing, will not be joining the club.

The deal for midfielder Moritz fell through because of complications getting him released from his contract with Thai Premier League side Buriram United.

Macheda began his career at Old Trafford and played for QPR, Stuttgart, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City on loan before joining Cardiff in May 2014.

He has only started 13 league games for the Welsh side and boss Russell Slade said they wanted him to "go and get a few games" - but confirmed there would be a 24-hour recall clause in any deal.

I'd be suprised if he was even that cheap

Re: UPDATED: FREDERICO MACHEDA DEAL DONE

Federico Macheda has the hunger to make himself a success at Nottingham Forest – because he arrives at the City Ground as a man with a point to prove, believes Dougie Freedman.

The Reds have agreed a deal to take the Italian striker on loan from Cardiff for the rest of the season.

And Forest boss Freedman believes Macheda, 24, (pictured) has a fierce appetite to get his career back on track, after finding it tough to pin down a regular first team place in Wales over the last two seasons.

Macheda has made only six substitute appearances in the Championship this season, after scoring six goals in 13 league starts and eight appearances off the bench during the last campaign, following his free transfer move from Manchester United.

Macheda had been regarded as being a potential star of the future at Old Trafford, after making an impressive early impact in the Premier League.

And he later scored 10 goals in 10 starts and eight sub appearances while on loan at Birmingham City, to further enhance his reputation at the end of the 2013/14 season.

His career has stagnated somewhat with the Bluebirds, but Freedman believes that has left Macheda with a point to prove, saying: "I have always said that when you sign a player on loan there have to be certain boxes ticked.

"One of those biggest boxes is that they have to have something to play for; a hunger.

"I know he did not dream of wearing a Nottingham Forest shirt when he was younger.

"I know that will not have been his dream when he was growing up.

"But he is a player with a point to prove and we can benefit from that."

Freedman believes Macheda can deliver something vital to the Forest ranks – finishing power.

"Looking at the Macheda deal, it is a very good one for us, because he is capable of scoring goals," he said.

"You have seen us play. How many times has the ball been flashed across the blooming box? How many chances have we created?

"We believe that, if he is there, in the right position, he is a player who can stick the ball in the back of the net for us.

"He has something to prove, because he has drifted along a little bit in the last couple of seasons.

"I have spoken to him last night and again this morning about things. I was a player of similar thinking, so I know what needs to be done for him; I know the environment we need to create, within our forward thinking players.

"We hope he will buy into that; having spoken to him, I believe he has the right mentality."

Forest hope that Macheda will be available to face Sheffield Wednesday at the City Ground, as they look to fill the void left by the groin injury suffered by Nelson Oliveira.

"The Welsh FA have been as good as gold, I am told it is now with FIFA. The suggestion was that, if we got everything together, in terms of paperwork, we should be able to get things over the line," said Freedman.

"As far as I am aware, we have done that.

"It is out of my hands. But I have these things taking four or five weeks and I have experienced them taking four or five days. Let's hope this time we are looking at four or five hours.

"We have been preparing in training on the presumption that he will be available. We have worked on things with him and without him. But that does not involve a huge amount of adjustment."
