Cardiff City Vs Ipswich Town: Match Preview

Date and Time: Saturday 12th March (15.00)

Venue: Cardiff City Stadium

Referee: Andrew Madley

Ipswich Town visit the Cardiff City Stadium for a Championship Play-offs six-pointer with Cardiff City. The two teams are locked on 55 points, just a point outside the top six but both slipped up last time out.

Cardiff look to bounce back from an unfortunate defeat against old rivals Leeds on Tuesday night as they take on the Tractor Boys, placed just one position below them in eighth. The Bluebirds lost a point on Sheffield Wednesday in sixth following their most recent slip-up.

Last time out, Mick McCarthy’s men were denied a win at bottom-club Bolton when the Trotters were awarded a a penalty in the seventh minute of added time and they duly converted to deny Ipswich a move into the play-off places.

Before the Bolton clash, Ipswich got themselves back-to-back wins against Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield respectively following a run of three defeats against Hull, Bristol and QPR. The Tractor Boys have a game-in-hand over Cardiff so a win at Cardiff City Stadium could potentially put a large gap between the two teams.

In the previous meeting between the two sides earlier on in the season, the clash finished goalless with very little action in front of goal. It looked a match devoid of quality with both teams very much cancelling each other out at Portman Road.

Team News:

Cardiff City

Cardiff find themselves in a tricky situation in the full-back department with Lee Peltier unlikely to return and Fabio Da Silva now serving a one-match suspension. Matthew Connolly is likely to shift to right-back with Sean Morrison coming in to cover at centre-back. Ben Turner is still just over a month away from a return.

Ipswich Town

Striker Daryl Murphy will return to action this weekend. Giles Coke misses out with a knee injury while David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop both miss out with hamstring injuries. Cole Skuse should return after missing the last five fixtures.

The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of the game against Ipswich Town this weekend.

Cardiff City host Ipswich Town on Saturday March 12 for the game at the Cardiff City Stadium and the match carries a 3pm kick off.

Referee: Andrew Madley
Linesmen: Robert Dabbs and Adam Hopkins
Fourth Official: Wayne Barratt

Match Day referee Andrew Madley (West Yorkshire) has officiated one Cardiff game this season.

He has however already taken in 32 other matches so far in 2015-16 and in those games, across all competitions and football divisions, he has handed out a total of 97 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

He was most card happy in the match between Brentford and Reading on August 29 with a total of eight yellows being shown. He also showed eight yellows in the game between Rochdale and Oldham on October 24.

Let`s hope it`s not another repeat and more of our players edge closer to automatic bans.
