With Fabio suspended and Lee Peltier unlikely to recover from injury in time, Slade could be forced into shuffling the pack when Ipswich come to Cardiff
Sean Morrison looks set for a Cardiff City comeback as Bluebirds boss Russell Slade ponders a defensive reshuffle ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash with Ipswich.
Cardiff have the chance to deliver a blow to one of their rivals for a top-six spot this weekend when they look to bounce back from midweek defeat to Leeds with a positive result against Mick McCarthy’s men.
But Slade admits he has defensive decisions to make beforehand having seen full-back Fabio sent-off in the 2-0 loss on Tuesday night after he received two yellow cards in the space of seven second-half minutes.
And with Lee Peltier remaining a serious doubt for the game after the foot injury suffered against Bristol City last weekend, Slade could turn to Morrison as part of a rethink, with Matt Connolly filling in at right-back.
Having figured in every game beforehand, centre-back Morrison has not started for Cardiff since suffering a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat to Birmingham a week before Christmas’.,
Bruno Manga came stepped in but the 25-year-old former Reading defender will now get a chance to try and stake a claim for a run in the team.
Peltier is still a way off full fitness after suffering severe bruising to his foot in the win at Ashton Gate, although Slade could have the right-back available for the following week’s trip to Reading, having initially feared the former Leicester, Leeds and Huddersfield man had broken the bone.
Fabio will serve a one-game suspension for his sending off, with Slade saying: “Fabio has just gone over to try and make a tackle. He’s made a meal of it but is it a yellow? Yes it probably is.”
“He will serve a ban and Lee will still be a doubt for Saturday, there’s no doubt about that, so we may have to reshuffle a little bit.”
Morrison played his first minutes since suffering his knock as a second-half sub in Bristol, replacing Peltier before heading back to the bench against Leeds, with Slade admitting of his defensive options: “If there’s a lack of form, an injury or suspension we have quality to come in. At this moment in time, with one defeat in eight, Bruno and Connolly have earned the shirt. Sean will accept that.
"He would not expect to go straight in the side, but if needed he will roll his sleeves up and be more than willing to play his part.”
