Pilkington Our Striker

Wed Mar 09, 2016 7:25 pm

Slade likes him obviously in his new role. Hes done a job for us and scored a few goals whilst working hard so cant fault him on that.

But for me he isnt the answer upfront for any team hoping to get promoted to the premier league.
From watching him last night he dosent get himself in the box enough and lacks that killer instinct in and around the penalty area, also he dosent seem to be much of an outlet up there not offering himself and is too weak at times imo, an out an out experienced striker is used to playing with his back to goal and off defenders shoulders aswell and just generally know the striker role better, pilkington would be way behind a natural striker in some ways imo and couldnt just pick stuff up over a few games or a season that an out an out striker has been doing years and years.

For me saadi or zahore could be better options for us upfront and should be given a real chance.

Do people think pilkington is the answer up front yes or no????

Every time Zahore plays i realise that Slade is playing the fluid football under duress. He can't wait to get a big lump on and launch it.

Saadi can't be up to much if Zahore is ahead of him in the pecking order.

Zahore looked more dangerous in 12 minutes and more like scoring mind than pilkington did all game last night. Maybe zahore is ahead of saadi with his fitness or maybe slade just likes to use zahore as a target man lump type, saadi deserves a chance he earned that from his last cameo in the starting line up, pilkington done nothing last night really slade should have put saadi on instead of him imo nothing to lose

Pilks has been fantastic up front and changed how we play, his movement is excellent and quick feet have won penalties and been a real threat. Sometimes as fans we want the lot, but your right in that he' ain't a striker. Think he does everything fantastic but ain't going to head it in for sure but doing a decent job

He's very good as a striker and is the best we have at the moment.

He created a few openings for himself last night but Silvestri had a blinder and the shots Pilks did have which usually would've deflected to someone else, somehow just stuck to his body...

For me he's as close to Fraizer Campbell as we've had since he's left.

We've seen very little of Saadi, so we can't judge him. Zohore has had a few minutes here and there, but offered very little.

Pilkington has been great, and Slade is spot on.

For me Pilkington has been brilliant. His movement is outstanding and could have got in behind their defence last night many times. The problem last night was we insisted several times on aiming it to his head and Bamba was winning every ball. We weren't using him to his strength. There was one moment in the second half where no one but the ball into the front post and Pilks picked it up and cut it back around the defender to make it one on one with the keeper. The only thing that let him down was his finish, I can't help but think a out and out striker would have tucked that away.

I agree hes similar to campbell i suppose. I like the fact he works hard and offers movement, i just cant see him being enough though and clinical enough to get us promoted.
Like other people say hes doing a job but doing a job isnt enough imo, we need an out an out striker, saadi could be that man imo give him a try if pilkington dosent deliver against ipswich

Thats my point. He will miss a lot of chances an out an out striker will just get in the right position and tuck away. He missed sitters as a winger aswell mind.

I think he's changed our whole attacking line and has been a revelation. He's our best option up top in the squad right now.

Am i mad guys? Because i thought zohore looked dangerous when he came on! Could quite easily have scored twice.

Now it might just be because we need to get the ball into the box, maybe if given a start he wouldnt be able to affect the game, but i was more optimistic after last night.

Also zohore instead of saadi was 100% the right call last night

He could have scored two easy chances, but never.

I wasn't there but all strikers miss decent chances. He's only played a few minutes here and there I think he needs a few full games before true judgement is passed.

100% correct he certainly isn't the finished article and he missed an absolute sitter last night.but he looks quite useful in the small cameos he's been given so far.

Might turn out a decent player given some time and patience

Zohore had 2 opportunities 1 hit the bar. Think Slade chose him over Saadi for obvious height and build. Maybe with more game time he will look dangerous but imo lacking the quality needed for this league

Re: Pilkington Our Striker

The one that hit the bar was no sitter, the ball was whipped in with real pace and the lad was at full stretch to connect with it. He had no control over where the ball was going in fairness to the lad.

You have every right to your opinion. For me, Zohore doesn't look particularly impressive and I'm not confident that he will add anything to the team. That said, the lad has only had very limited game time and he should possibly be given a start. To get a better opinion of him.

My opinion is that although Saadi has also had even more limited time (only about 10 mins!), he did look like he had something about him. I would bring him on at some point on Saturday.

Pilkington is not a natural striker, but is probably the best option within the team at the moment. :bluescarf:

agree that he probably needs a start so we can assess him more, but pilkington has been playing well in that role at the moment, and i dont see him changing it.

He tried, and tried and tried.... moved into space, caused them issues and gave us aggression.
