REDKNAPP: NO TOON CONTACT

Wednesday 9th March 2016

Harry Redknapp has played down rumours he flew to Newcastle to speak to the club about taking over as manager.

Newcastle remain unsure on whether to replace Steve McClaren, according to Sky sources.

Redknapp told TV3:”No, I’ve never spoken to anybody at Newcastle.

“Steve’s still in a job. I like Steve McClaren. I’ve worked with Steve, he’s an excellent coach, manager, whatever, but he needs a result quickly. But I’ve never spoken to them.

“I was getting on the plane today from Southampton, and everybody thought I was heading to Newcastle. I was heading to Dublin.

“If something came along that was interesting, I would. Most of the offers I’m getting at the moment are from far off places in the world where I don’t feel like travelling to at the moment.”

Steve McClaren is shit. Ashley is a cancer on the club.

That club should be fighting for Europe every season.

No manager will do well there until Ashley goes, Shearer is right when he says it's a club rotten to the core.

One of the biggest clubs in the UK with one of the best fan bases.

There's only so many managers you can go through before you have to start looking at other factors surely?

And how long ago was that? He has gradually got worse and worse.

And a lot has changed at that club since then. I'm not talking about the past, I'm talking about now.

Even now they're still a big club, and their fans are some of the best.

yes but you cant make a sweeping statement that they will never do well with ashley in charge, when they have already done well with him at the club

In the past and, as I say, he's got gradually worse there. So no, I don't think they'll ever do well while he's there going forward.

Yes he has got worse? Pardew, although struggling last few games, has done a good job at Palace. He failed at Newcastle, and he had a much better team at Newcastle.

McClaren was doing a good job at Derby before the talk of him going to Newcastle started. Failed at Newcastle.

We're in 2016 now so if we go from the 6th place finish you mentioned, although that was four years ago as it was 2012 and it was 5th place.

2012 - 5th
2013 - 16th
2014 - 10th
2015 - 15th
2016 - ??? Possibly relegated

If that isn't going backwards then I don't know what is. Three out of five seasons they've been in a relegation battle. 2014 I think their position is a bit of a lie because they may have had a good run at the end of the season, but I'm not 100% on that.

So for argument's sake, they've never even been close to the final standing they had in 2012.

You mention their fans weren't happy with the owner in 2012, but I was there in 2014 on the day we got relegated and they staged a mass walk-out. This season and last season they've held further demonstrations towards him.

So yes, the situation has gradually got worse with him in charge. The man who also took away the name "St. James' Park" before a new sponsor decided they would rather it went back to the original name.

of course its going backwards, not disputing that, having said that they were in the championship with ashley in charge too.

your point of " they will never do well with ashley in charge" is just a silly one, hes thrown millions at it, recently seen the side finish 5th in the premier league as well. nothing to say they couldnt do well again in the future, i dont really see what askley has to do with it.

Ok then, obviously got very different view points.
