Supporters believed to be travelling to Dumbarton to watch Hibernian play on Sunday.

Abuse: The incident happened as the man got off the train at Glasgow Queen Street.

Football fans verbally abused a disabled man on a train while on their way to a match.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward following the incident on a train journey between Carntyne and Glasgow Queen Street on Sunday.

The 51-year-old victim, who walks with the aid of two sticks, boarded the Helensburgh-bound service at Carntyne station at around 12.30pm.

He asked the group of supporters, believed to be travelling to Dumbarton to watch Hibernian play in a Scottish Championship match, if he could sit on a seat designated for disabled passengers.

The group initially refused his request but then allowed him to sit down. As he got off the train at Glasgow Queen Street, the group made abusive comments about his disability.

Constable John Paul O'Kane, the British Transport Police officer in charge of the investigation, appealed for anyone with information to contact him.

He said: "Hate crime in any form is totally unacceptable and there really is nothing that excuses such behaviour from the group of Hibs supporters."

As disgusting as it may be I don't think it gives all fans a bad name really. Specially considering our fans are a lot better now than ever before. Is one isolated incident in another country going to effect us? Nope.

Anyway hope they catch the bastards.

On the other hand,it was fantastic when our fans paid tribute to the young Leeds fan who sadly lost his life. Does anyone what happened to him?
