Danny Gabbidon on Russell Slade behind the scenes

By Steve Tucker

Monday 7th March 2016

On criticism of Russell Slade...

At times I think some of the criticism the manager has been warranted and I think he needs to accept that.

There have been performances which have been under par particularly when you look at the players there. When I was there last season, I was sitting there and there were performances where you were thinking, ‘Look at the players we have and we are performing like this? This is not what we are about.’

The manager has to take that on the chin. But now the team is doing well, it’s the opposite, we have to try now to get behind him.

Credit where credit is due. Russell had a tough job when he came in, I know because I was there, there was a lot of stuff going on. There were players who needed to be shifted, bad eggs. The squad was very large, there were two groups.

There was a lot to sort out before he even thought about how the team played. He’s straight-forward how he wants the team to play, it was about getting the right people in the right positions and getting them to gel and I don’t think that was happening at the start.

He did not quite have the team selection right, but now he’s got the right people in the right positions. There has been a lot of improvement.

This is the business-end of the season and now is when you want to see your team playing well. I was there last season and this one is 100 times better.

On Slade’s contract situation...
Most managers don’t get told at the end of their contract that they are going to get a new one. You would think he should know by now.

Things should have happened long before now, but it’s not going to happen now.

What happens if he gets us to the Premier League? What’s to say some other team could not come in and take him away.

The situation does not make sense to me. I’m not sure which way to look at it.

I don't see how that's shit stirring.

He's complimentary to Slade. Says he had a difficult job last season, made some wrong team selections but this season is much better.

Sounds fair enough to me.
He was there and would know better than anyone what the situation was.
Interesting he talks of bad eggs.
Wonder who they were.

Slade has earnt a bit of backing and on Saturday he got it.

I've always felt he was cleaning up someone else's mess.Even a high profile manager would have struggled under the same circumstances.

Tan said that when he appointed Russell Slade, it was because he was an honest man. Someone he could trust.

Danny aludes to the fact that there was some shit to clear up. Bad eggs. And all the rest of the stuff..... ego's collecting big wages and not trying a tap. Youngsters collecting big wages and not trying a atap! Clear out. No funds.

So we have an honest, trustworthy man with integrity. He has finally accidentlied upon a winning formation (!) and the players are finally playing for him and each other.

He deserves our RESPECT and SUPPORT. :sladein:
