"Russell Slade urges his Cardiff City players not to throw their shot at the play-offs away after Bristol City victory "

05/03/16

Slade was a happy man as his Bluebirds side beat the Robins 2-0 at Ashton Gate.

sell Slade has urged his ‘efficient’ Cardiff City players not to throw away the shot at the Championship play-offs they have given themselves.

The Bluebirds triumphed 2-0 at Bristol City to push them back up into real contention for a place in the top six.

It was hardly the most glamorous of games, but Slade said his side had done what was needed to secure the vital points.

“You don’t always have to win in style, sometimes you just have to be efficient about what you do. It was a good and strong away performance.

“They had pressure, but we did not concede and that is important away from home. We were brave and put our bodies on the line to ensure we kept a clean sheet.

“It wasn’t a classic performance, but at this stage of the season it is all about results. The message was to do whatever it took to get the three points and we did that. If we have to win ugly, great.”

The victory meant Cardiff won back-to-back matches for only the second time this season, but Slade insisted that was not so important.

With his side now beaten only once in nine games, the Bluebirds boss insisted his men had been proving hard to beat for a while now.

“I see it really as continued momentum. We’ve lost one in nine now. It’s important to be hitting that kind of form at this stage of the season,” said the Cardiff chief.

“We are just working very hard, we believe now we have an opportunity and we don’t want to waste it. We’ve got 11 games left and we need to get as many points as we can now. Hopefully that will be enough to get us in the top six.

“We are starting to turn a corner I feel and make some real progress. We need to dust ourselves down now and go again against Leeds on Tuesday.

“Every game is huge now. But if we really, really want it, we feel it is there for us.”

The Bluebirds' victory came thanks to goals in each half from Lex Immers and a first for the club from Stuart O’Keefe, who nodded home after Tom Lawrence’s shot had been pushed onto the bar.

Slade was full of praise for all involved.

“We were ruthless going forward and took our chances really well,” added Slade.

“It was a good performance from Lex, he has the knack of arriving in the box at the right time. He made the finish look simple. We are very pleased with him.

“I’m delighted for Stuart, although it was a great strike from Tom Lawrence. But fair play to Stuart it was his energy that got him up there to ensure it went in.”

One concern for Slade though was the fact Lee Peltier was forced off at half-time.

The right-back will have an x-ray today on a foot injury.

Think he's spot on Annis to be fair.. Wasn't the prettiest of games but did what we had to do, little shaky a the back in parts during the second half but thought we controlled the game well.

Think the tactics were right as your pre match talk inspired him somewhat or maybe he didn't want u ranting in the dressing room at halftime

Good result today lads, cracking atmosphere (all from cardiff) and fans seemed united which is what we need.

But we don't care coz Russell Skade got no hair

Brilliant win today it feels so good to beat the Brizzle shitheads. Sir Russell Slade OBE (well it's only a matter of time ;) ) is absolutely right the team must stay focused and not throw away the brilliant opportunity which is literally landing in our lap.

With two name games now, we have a real chance to put ourselves in a good position going towards the final stages of the season.

We have to take advantage, Slade is right :ayatollah:
