A forum for all things Cardiff City

Haven't posted on here for quite some time.
I'm one of those stay away supporters. Went to most games from about 2002 until the season we got promoted, had been going before that since about 67/68 but did miss about 8 or 9 seasons when we were shite (probably classes me as a plastic/glory hunter), saw about 5 games in the Prem and 1 or 2 since, introduced my kids to the club and they all supported The City even though they had the choice to be a sky sports Man Ure or Arse fan etc.
Haven't any inclination to start attending games again atm as the feeling has gone, I still check City's results (but not immediately after the game).
I now attend The Devils games and must say the match day/night experience is miles apart from the fayre dished up at The City, on pure adrenaline and entertainment value the Ice Hockey wins hands down, I would still attend City games as well as the Devils if it was half as entertaining as a spectacle.
The team are holding their own atm and could reach the play off places but there seems to be a real lack of personalities on or off the pitch atm, Is there one player in the team who can get people off their seats whenever he gets the ball? or a motivational person in the management team? the answer I'm afraid is no imo (as a non attender).
What would get me back down there and get my enthusiasm back? A manager with personality and enthusiasm such as Bellamy or a player with talent who can turn a game with a moment of magic, these ingredients are missing imo and do little to entice ex supporters or on the fence fans back.
There seems to be a lack of ambition running through the club and mediocrity seems to be the acceptable norm.
From what I read on this forum the atmosphere is shite and over enthusiastic stewards are doing their best to kill any atmosphere that still exists.
It's always been my club and always will but really not interested in watching a game atm as the whole matchday experience seems to be an anti climax.
Nuclear Blue's picture of him sleeping seems to sum it up for me.
I like to be entertained but would feel like I've been robbed if I went to a game now.
So what could the club do to get people like me (a plastic to some on here) to return to the fold?
Que all the name callers.

I've been to a few Devils games and follow the results.
The atmosphere is not one I would like at football. It's plastic manufactured American style. Almost 'nerdy' really. Great that they play the National Anthem before games, but last time I felt I was the only one in my block who was singing it !
I can't be doing with the clackers ( they do my head in at Wales games) and the cheesy American music played during the game - and feckin goal music.
The sport itself is good, but not a patch on football. However I'd support the local tiddlywinks team if they were 'Wales' or 'Cardiff' and there are some good people at the club.
The standard doesn't appear high, and there are only 10 teams in the league, so the competition is fairly stale. Although on the good side the wage caps mean that there is very little difference between the sides with 5 in contention for the title and 3 others who beat the top sides regularly.
City have had a lean spell last 2-3 seasons but are slowly getting things right. The club needs support and right now are doing things to earn it - on and off the pitch.
Your entitled to your views of course, but for me, my heart is with CCFC and no hyped up , Americanised sport would change that, even though I hope they do well and will no doubt watch another game with my family soon.

I have heard a lot of fans that turned their back are coming back next season.
But some will not return until Tan is gone.

One other thing.
The only way to find out for yourself what it's like at the city is to go yourself.
For me we have got exciting players to watch- Pilkington is one of the best in the league.
Marshall, Fabio, Manga, Lawrence, Whittingham and No one all capable of brilliance.
As for atmosphere, this board is overly negative.
The more that go to games and make an effort , the better it will be.
Moaning on a messageboards won't help- that's for sure

Don't get me wrong I've followed City from the late 60's in one form or another and no one is more passionate than me (I defend City when the plastics start in work), but for a few years it went sour and it wasn't the red for me that took away my enjoyment just everything in general.
Don't find the Ice Hockey atmosphere manufactured at all it's genuine passion for the team, the whole set up seems more professional than at the City making for better entertainment for half the price.

Time is a great healer and IMO we have bottomed and are back on the up.
You come back on you own terms, its not a prison sentence its meant to be enjoyable.

A lot of the fun has gone out of going to games, I don't just mean bother as in reality there never was a huge amount here in cardiff as the police were very good at what they had to do. We did have a lot of laddish types who were come from all over with there mates, have a few beers, bit of banter with the away fans etc and watch the game. These types don't go anymore as we all know you can't even look at the away fans let alone have any banter with them. The ccs generally has 20,000 empty seats so there is no atmosphere. Until this changes, which it won't with Nash in charge, this type of fan won't return. Some say we don't need them, but this was our typical type of fan for decades as it is in other areas or clubs like brum, mill wall, Pompey etc...we used be known as "lively" now we are probably the complete opposite.

Spot on. Too many so called fans bleating on about how they used to go but........
How about thinking what fans can do for their club as opposed to wanting the club to do something for them!

Sounds a bit like me , supported city on and off since late seventies, I also like to be entertained, stopped going because of the crap Malky team was serving up, once you stop you find other things to fill your time.

Great statement fella totally 100% agree with you on this.i know of many lads who just simply have knocked it on the head as there's no craic at the football no more!no atmosphere, nobody sat next to each other anymore, over zealous stewarding etc.that was a big part of the ninian park factor it was intimidating with all the lads sat together, banter with the away fans as A block was so close to visiting fans etc at least there was an atmosphere.same as the away travel again a lot of the older lot who loved a good away trip have lost interest simply as you need to be a member or at least have attended a certain amount of games to get tickets, which is totally fair & I agree with, but if you can't attend games due to work etc it does become an issue.hopefully a few more pay on the gate games will encourage a few to come back.
