" RUSSELL SLSDE HAS A BIG PROBLEM/ BUT A GOOD ONE "
Who to choose ahead of the big derby match
Friday 4th March 2016
Peter Whittingham, Craig Noone and Sean Morrison are all fit for the Bristol City game and with his side looking for three points to keep their play-off dream alive, Slade said he was looking forward to considering his options.
“Peter Whittingham trained yesterday. He had a session. Sean Morrison and Craig Noone have completed a full week’s training. Fingers crossed I have a selection problem in terms not just of the 11, but the 18,” said Slade.
“That would be welcome. It’s a nice problem for a manager to have players back who have been missing. All three are in contention for the squad.
“If he gets the shirt ‘Whitts’ can shine in any game. We will have to see how he comes through training. The great thing is having the likes of Morrison, Whitts and Noone available again. Whether they start or not, it strengthens us.
“That’s the big thing. If they don’t make the 11, they’re good and strong players to come on and make a difference.”
Whittingham missed the Bluebirds’ win over Preston in the Welsh capital last weekend with a calf strain whilst Noone has been absent for Cardiff’s last six outings with a back injury.
Centre-half Morrison has been out for much longer, not seeing any action at all since December following his knee problem.
Morrison and Matthew Connolly forged a solid partnership in the heart of defence at the start of the campaign until Morrison was ruled out and Bruno Manga stepped in.
He and Connolly have been doing a fine job too and the Bluebirds’ boss admits Morrison is going to have to bide his time before an imminent return to the starting XI.
“It’s just healthy to have competition in that area,” added Slade.
“The first centre-half partnership did ever so well and now Bruno and Connolly have done really well to maintain that. Now we have competition, there’s three for two slots and that is very healthy.
“If there’s a lack of form, an injury or suspension we have quality to come in.
“But at this moment in time, with one defeat in eight, Bruno and Connolly have earned the shirt. Sean will accept that. He would not expect to go straight in the side.
“He probably is not quite ready to start a game yet. But if needed he will roll his sleeves up and be more than willing to play his part.”
One player still ruled out though is full-back Fabio who is recovering from a foot injury.
Slade said he hoped the Brazilian would return to training on Monday.

i expect to see Noone and Whitts on the bench. Morrison might not even get that far, hes been out for a long time and we need someone able to play the whole game should an early injury happen.

Hopefully Whitts will be on the field, as I thought we missed him last time out! To me, he just has that 'something extra' that makes his inclusion a must!

Agreed, nice balance to o'keefe and Ralls in the centre with Whitts wide, he's come back into form so hopefully he can continue that.
