Euro 2016: Terror threat could see games behind closed doors

BBC

Wednesday 2nd March 2016

Two men tried to enter the Stade de France wearing suicide vests during the attacks on 13 November.
Euro 2016 matches could be played behind closed doors in the event of a terror alert at this summer's finals.

European football's governing body Uefa is drawing up anti-terror contingency plans for the event in France.

The move follows November's Paris attacks, which included attempts to detonate explosives at the Stade de France during a France v Germany game.

"If there is a security issue, we would need to play the match without fans," tournament director Martin Kallen said.

Moving matches to different venues is another option being considered.

"It's possible that matches would be postponed or played later," Kallen added. "But today there are no signs of any extreme threats or alarming issues."

The international friendly between France and Germany at the Stade de France was one of several targets in the 13 November attacks, although suicide bombers were thwarted in their attempts to get into the stadium.

Explosions were heard by people inside the ground but the match continued.

The attacks left 130 people dead and many more seriously injured.

The German national team remained in the stadium overnight.

The Stade de France will host the opening game of the tournament between France and Romania on 10 June, as well as the final and other matches.

Wednesday marks 100 days to the start of the finals.

I've no doubt there'll be at least one terror attack there but it's not stopping me from going.

So there were no attacks on Paris on 13 November and no-one was wearing suicide vests?

Do you really believe in the name of political correctness the possibility of another terrorist attack in France should-not be disgusted and measures taken to prevent it?

What you might call scaremongering is called common bloody sense by those with even an once of it.

It was more coming onto the forum to look for news about city for half the stickies to be about terrorism in France. This story is obviously not as bad as one of the other stickies which said 2000 hooligans are being banned to counter terrorism, definitely a logical argument there. Of course the security services need to have a plan to deal with any acts of terrorism but that's for them to concentrate on while we concentrate on the football. Personally I don't think anything will happen because security services are going to be so well prepared, it'd be easier to just attack another random concert or subway or something where it's less expected but with a high volume of people still. Every man and his dog is going to be on the lookout for it in the euros.

I haven't really given the whole ISIS threat much thought, however I would be really pissed off if any of the games are called off due to ISIS.
