Anyone running the World Champs in Cardiff on the 26th?

Tue Mar 01, 2016 1:49 pm

Been training hard since Christmas as I have always dreamed of getting a personal best at the Cardiff Half but this is better! I'm Hoping to run it in under 80 minutes.

I think my Stamina is ok as I have been running up to 60 miles per week but I'm concerned about my pace and lack of racing in the build up although I'm doing what I can to remedy it.

It should be a great day and will really put Cardiff on the map, I just hope it all goes well. :thumbright:

I am doing this but haven't really trained much this year due to injury and work so im just hoping I can get under 2 hours, I was looking for about 100 minutes but im nowhere near that right now but I am looking forward to the event

Good luck!

I'm trying not to expect too much now, I'm just going to train as best I can and try to put in a good shift on the day.

The key thing is to ignore everyone around you and run your own race. It's a fantastic feeling when you get it just right and overtake loads of people on the second half! Could be tough for me with my lack of race experience but often the less you expect the more you get. :ayatollah:

I was hoping for a PB of quicker than 1hr 55 but think it might be difficult with the amount of people taking part.

80 minutes would be impressive! Not far behind Mo :D

Cheers, I think Mo will beat me by a good 20 minutes at least though! Good luck, I hope all goes well for you! :ayatollah:

The only thing I can say about a lack of race experience is don't leave the occasion get to you, I was told this on my 1st race and within seconds I knew what they meant, don't go sprinting off just run your own race, even think of it as a training run and don't change anything you do on a normal running day :ayatollah:

Spot on!

Even experienced club runners get a rush of blood. The first couple of miles will always feel easy no matter how hard you run. Forget about how charged and good your feeling, just stick to the plan and run within your capabilities. If you do you will pass many who have overcooked it and you can thank yourself later!

How did you get on? I did 1:56, bit disappointed as I was hoping for a couple of mins quicker. That downpour was a nightmare though!

I ran 1.22.18 and my target in the end was 82 as im some way from a PB. The standard was immense and the weather in the last 3 miles made for a tough finish! I slowed down alot towards the end. I was the 59th Welshman to cross the line and got ranked 111th in Wales which is something to build on.
