Time to praise Russ? An outsider view

Sat Feb 27, 2016 5:42 pm

Good evening from a Leyton Orient fan living in Cardiff.

I was pleased to see City beat an in form Preston team & are now 7th, 3 points from the play offs. It seems to me that is a good achievement in view of City's problems, the lack of investment in the team etc

The players seem to be playing for Russell Slade & ATM he's getting results. It would be impressive if you make top 6. I like to see City do well & would be delighted as someone who greatly regretted his departure from my club.

Is it time to give Russ credit & get behind him?

Ever since Slade left you're club you have been on downward spiral so no doubt it shows how good a job Slade was doing and he has got us 3 points within the play offs with little to no investment in the team so well done to Russ. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I have always been a fan of Russ and stuck by him this season. Our problem is just as we seem to have turned a corner we shoot ourselves in the foot. Still I would describe this season as 2 steps forward and 1 step back, which is the reason why we are just outside the play-offs rather than the thick of the top six.

As for Orient I have always had a soft spot for them as I enjoyed going there in the lower leagues. With West Ham moving to your manor I'm not sure how the future will pan out for the 'O's

If he gets is into the play/offs I'd say I was wrong. I still don't see it happening and don't like him.

He now deserves until the end of the season though.

I would happily send him back to Orient. First half today was shocking football. Second slightly better. We got three points but football was terrible. :sladeout: :sladeout:

Did you post the same when we were winning consistently under Malky?

To tell a manager that we're he's going to lose his top three strikers and enter a transfer embargo in January then have results... Improve if anything. You have to give him credit.

Let's not the fact that a very long standing financial predicament has finally been removed leaving no uncertainties about the future of the finances and standing of the club.

Players seem to be playing with a new sense of freedom and self belief.

I rarely criticise opinions but, as I was there today, I can comfortably say that is absolute rubbish.

Some of the attacking play from City last 2 matches has been the best since Bothroyd and Chopra ( not as good as that mind).

It's not yet consistent enough, but I don't think it's fair to criticise the football being played at the moment which is producing goals and results.

The move for the first penalty was superb.

The interplay between Pilkington, Immers, Lawrence and yesterday Malone, O'Keefe and previously Whitts and Ralls is excellent

Getting rid of the static players like Jones, Mason has freed up the attacking players to interlink better. I used to tink there was a place for Kenwynne Jones, but, I don't see that type of slow, static target man as a necessity any more in modern football
