Excellent news. Ex-@NewportCounty player @ReganPoole makes his debut for @ManUtd.Injury time but could be significant moment for @FAWales

A @ManUtd debut for @ReganPoole will raise serious question for @CardiffCityFC. But Who sanctioned his release from the Cardiff City Academy?

doesn't make it right though Paul. Moreover, you are probably referring to the less successful clubs in terms of developing youth players

A kid of 13 may not develope the skills he does at 17 hence so many kids get released at 12/13 at one club but go on to make it elsewhere at an older age! shame about this one but thats football.

While I do agree to an extent, surely Regan had something about him, whether it's a good attitude or technical skill to warrant a youth development contract with us. Clearly, a player than has football league experience at 16 and now is at Man Utd at 17/18, questions have to be asked.

Is this the player who was released because he was "too short"?

United obviously think of him highly and when you think of the amount of players who come through their academy and never get a game for their first team.

Yes maybe they need to look at how they select kids, but sure wasn't just his size they considered! Musnt forget only very small amount make it from academies even from man u ect who get cream of kids? And as we don't have good record on playing kids even when do come through hardly surprising this kid slipped through net!

That's true. He clearly didn't develop to a good enough level at that age. Wasn't a mistake at the time, but clearly a mistake now. Good luck to him though. :thumbright:

Kenny Dalglish was famously rejected after a trial with West Ham, as was Gullit at Arsenal and Ian Wright was turned away as a lad from Southend. Just a few there.

Let's hope he continues to improve.

But let's be honest,a sub appearance in the Europa cup for minutes doesn't prove anything. When he has had a season of good prem football then we can say what a mistake.

Fabio and Macheda had games at United, doesn't mean anything yet.

Sometimes it's how individuals respond to criticism and rejection that Spurs them on to become greats ( some instances wasters ) hindsight is great aye!!!

Macheda was also 17 when he made his debut. Lots of youth players don't make it at united.

I'm not saying he wont make it, hope he does. time will tell. But the proof will be if city were right or wrong in 3 or 4 years when he has proven himself. Not after a minute sub appearence.
