' Why Has he not been given a chance by Russell Slade? '

On my FB, Ive had 4 Chesterfield fans all say Declan John has either been way superior compared to their players or that he has stood out compared to the rest of their team.
Why was he not given a chance by Russell Slade?

More to come from Declan John at Chesterfield, says Danny Wilson

Thursday 25 February 2016

Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson believes there is more to come from on loan defender Declan John.

John impressed on his Spireites debut on the left side of Wilson’s defence in the 3-1 home win over Crewe Alexandra last Saturday.

The 20-year-old, on a temporary switch from Championship side Cardiff City, has Premier League experience with the Bluebirds in 2013/14.

And Wilson, whose side travel to high-flying Gillingham this weekend, is looking forward to seeing how he develops in the coming weeks.

He said: “The lads have embraced him very quickly. We’ve not seen anything like what he can play like - not from what I’ve seen from him before anyway.

“I’m quite excited by some of the performances coming up. I’m sure he’ll excite a lot of people. He’s very positive, gets forward well, very quick and strong.

“Let’s hope we can see more of the attacking side of it rather than the defensive side of it.”

John was drafted in in the absence of Dan Jones, who made his first competitive appearance since fracturing an ankle in November in the reserves fixture midweek.

Jones made a second half appearance in a 7-0 win over Gateshead but was substituted soon after with a foot injury. Wilson said it was separate to his initial injury.

“He’s a very strong-minded person and a very fit boy,” said Wilson of Jones. “He takes his training very seriously and his upkeep of himself. He’s very much a model pro.

“We’ll have no problems of him stepping back in both mentally and physically. We’ve got to make sure it’s the right time and he’s not being pushed back in.

“He will be a fantastic ‘signing’, so to speak, for us in the run-in in the last few weeks. Let’s hope he’s ready for it.”

Hopefully he will be given more games time next season...he's young and has plenty of time to play
No dout he could get into most championship teams

Never been impressed with him tbh that's because he was really young at the time hope he gets a chance.

His defending is bad, very bad, but there is enough of a player there that makes his lack of appearances for us all the more surprising.

If we are trying to save money on transfers, we need to be developing our youth, and we've failed badly on that front. Why didn't we loan John out sooner, if he isn't going to play?

He is a winger not a defender lets get that out.

I don't disagree, but neither Slade nor Ole really looked to put him back in that position after Malky moved him to LB?

No but it's clear he isn't comfortable in that position. If I was manager I would revert him to his natural position and see where it leads

City managers clearly havent rated him and there must be a reason. Lets not forget he's on loan at a club in a lower league club. Maybe thats why he looks so good

I think he showed great potential at full back, judging the kids faults after a backs to the wall season in the prem at 18 is a bit silly really.

He's class will have a great career - slade wrong on this one.

I will stick up for Slade here, playing players that have not done enough to warrant a place in the 11 gets you the sack

The biggest cock-up in my eyes was not allowing Declan to be loaned out as soon as he wasn't in Slade's plans.

I think he needs a bit more experience if I'm honest.

I hope he stays at the club because he definitely has a future, but he's not quite ready to challenge Malone and Fabio yet.

I dont rate malone much to be honest. Declan is on par with malone and has the potential to be a lot better than him imo just needs a manager who will put faith in him.

Should have been loaned out somewhere to be a winger and see how he does.

Not to fussed really, if he wasn't Welsh no one would really care.

Spot on.

I think that Slade's reluctance to give any youngsters a chance is wrong, but some on here appear to be unusually obsessed about this particular average player.

No doubt, noone, or pilington or our other wingers would stand out as well. Kennedy also loaned out and would be ahead of him.

I just think we have better, not been impressed with him myself but said he should have been loaned out at the start of the season.

Horses for courses. Slade believes in defend first defenders, he is an attack minded modern wing back. Wait and see who is in charge next season.
