WHERE WOULD CARDIFF CITY BE WITHOUT DAVID MARSHALL?

By Steve Tucker

Wednesday 24th Feb 2016

There is a simple way to check how well the Bluebirds actually played in a game by simply asking was goalkeeper David Marshall man of the match or not? The Scottish international quite often is and he was again at Middlesbrough. In particular, Marshall made sure it was a frustrating night for Boro’s new £9m striker Jordan Rhodes, with the shot-stopper denying the frontman on a number of occasions including a lovely save from a far post header.

David Marshall was superb once again last night

But the evening was crowned by a fantastic penalty save from Boro skipper Grant Leadbitter as Marshall got down low to his right to save the effort. It was a shame Boro still went on to get another as Cardiff pushed forward. Without Marshall Cardiff would have sunk to a much heavier defeat on Teesside and who knows where they would be in the table. The worry is that just how long can the Bluebirds hold onto their goalkeeper if they remain in the Championship?

Well he might be tuckers mom but not mine ,immers for me
And using tuckers logic ,you could then say without Fabio we would have sunk to a heavier defeat as Fabio scored our only goal

A top class striker will score you 15-20 goals in a season more than an average Championship striker. A top class goalkeeper such as Marshall will not save you 15-20 goals more than a decent Championship goalkeeper.

The role of Marshall is important, but not as important as people like Steve Tucker suggest.

Agree with you Steve, I thought Immers was our best player. Fabio had a good first half and would have got it, but faded in the second half.

Still not sure on Zohore, hasn't done anything to impress me in the brief minutes he's had.

My opinion is that Marshall is quite partial to a howler aswell so not faultless by any means his decision making at times is questionable. But om his day great shot stopper. Dodgy as f**k on crosses tho.
