Loan Watch

Ok, one was a penalty but two goals in a dominant team performance are not to be sniffed at and an emphatic response to any criticism received after a couple of quiet games. It's hardly surprising that message boards were busy again as fans logged on to discuss the stunning return to form of a man who some doubters were starting to write off, Etien Velikonja. Lierse won 2-0 at Seraing on Sunday and Velikonja won the penalty he subsequently converted before hitting a late second. Form is temporary but class is permanent.
No action for our players in the Championship at the weekend but in League One, Declan John pleased Chesterfield manager Danny Wilson with his debut against Crewe on Saturday in a 3-1 win. The flip side of that was a first defeat in seven games for Semi Ajayi as he ended his loan spell at Crewe with a disappointing performance after an excellent run alongside Ben Nugent.
Matty Kennedy continues to impress at Port Vale, a man of the match showing against Fleetwood was followed by a quieter display at Sheffield United but he was still one of the better players in a lacklustre team performance. A knee injury to Gillingham centre half John Egan seems to open the door for a return there for Deji Oshilaja. Deji made the bench for City on Saturday, an achievement which now makes him clear favourite for the Cardiff City Young Player of the Season award.
Elsewhere, an assist for Kenwyne Jones in a 3-2 win for Al Jazira and some encouraging pre-season results for Mark Dempsey's Haugesund in Norway where Filip Kiss seems to be impressing in central midfield. Of our former players there were goals for Matt Green, Conor McAleny and Jon Parkin with good performances also from Josh Yorwerth, Jobi McAnuff and Anthony Gerrard.
