Brighton win my best as Cardiff City boss, says Russell Slade

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade described the 4-1 win against Brighton as the best performance of his 16-month tenure.

Two Peter Whittingham goals helped the Bluebirds keep their Championship play-off ambitions alive with a convincing display.

Cardiff, who appointed Slade in October 2014, are now seventh in the table, four points short of the play-offs.

"That was probably the best performance of my time in charge," he said.

"It would be up there certainly, but it wasn't too many weeks ago I was very happy with how we played at Wolves."

Cardiff's draw at Charlton the previous week was their 13th of the season, more than any other team in the Championship.

That was the Bluebirds' second successive goalless stalemate, and Slade was pleased with their improved finishing against automatic promotion contenders Brighton.

Cardiff led 3-0 within half an hour, and were never troubled.

"Sometimes you work hard and create chances, as in recent weeks, without the reward, but today our movement was good and our finishing was ruthless. It was good to see," he added.

"We can improve and we are improving, we have still got new partnerships out there on the pitch.

"We have Tom [Lawrence] and Lex [Immers] settling into a new environment. It is quite a new team and quite a young team as well.

"We are maturing and it was a mature performance, that was the most pleasing thing."

I didn't do Wolves so for me that was the best performance under RS and OGS, got to go back to Man city to better that. That's how well I think we played

Don't get me wrong I thought we played very well.

BUT..... Whitts first goal, and Pilks were pretty pi** poor defending. Immers was a bit of luck the way the ball bounced back into his path. Good finish considering but still we finally had a lot of luck.

Just like the Wolves game Im not going to say wow were world beaters, because a good side will put those performances in week in week out. Lets hope we can finally have a run

Totally disagree with your summation. The Brighton CB's were pulled all over the place and that was down to our lads working extremely hard off the ball. While we now need to demonstrate consistency Brighton are a good side and will still probably still finish above us.

Whitts was drifting in from the left quite a lot in the first half and it was causing them a lot of problems. poor defending yes, but we attacked with real intent and i think id rather give us credit than slate brighton

Thats a good point. Yes, teams can play badly, but sometimes the opposition can make you play badly. As you say, the movement and link up play really messed with Brighton and pulled their team all over the place.

We scored 4 goals so by definition Brighton must have defended poorly. That said this shoot on sight policy is one can live with at the moment

Definitely the best performance from CCFC in a few years! Season ticket prices revealed today will save me £200 next year!

Things certainly are looking up for Cardiff City! :thumbright:

Certainly close between that and the wolves game. Overall the wolves game may edge my decision on the fact that I wasn't soaked through to my kegs :)
