" Unsung heroes "

While Pilks, immers, Lawrence, witts will take plaudits for today and rightly so. The work okeefe and Ralls got through today was something else, so vital to allow it all to work. Not gone unnoticed by myself, our immense midfield win that match. More please.

Agree with you - they both played very well.

Agreed, couldn't name a player who didn't put there all in. Every time someone lost it, they fought for it back it was good to see. Okeefe stood out for me, gutsy and composed on the ball

Something has to be said about Manga today too. Quietly superb today!

Think manga the last two games has been outstanding and back to last year's form. O Keefe has also been excellent and gives much needed energy in the middle.

I think lex has to start again! His energy levels and amount of ground he covers is incredible! 1st to the last minute! Hell of an engine! Far more effective than Ameobi!

I was also surprised by how comfortable he looked in possession & then icing on the cake popping up in a great position with a difficult and well taken finish!

I was really impressed by him today!

Ralls? He kicked it out to touch more than Leigh Halfpenny

The comparisons to Ramsey are embarrassing. He's a very poor mans Whitts.

Come on polo don't pick out a negative. Having said that I'm doubting ralls a little bit myself now but I do prefer a midfield of 2 players who can pass and move and also beat a man as opposed to a passer and a hard man.

I've said all season on here that okeefe should be playing. I'm noting that down as one of my better shouts lol

I'm not being negative I'm just telling it like it is. Unsung hero? First half we had several overloads with Malone on the left and Ralls passing was shite.

Sorry but it annoys me how much grief Whitts gets and Ralls gets away Scot free.

Polo, I suggest you buy a new television to watch the City play on!

If you had been observing the game with some degree of accuracy, you may noticed the significant contribution made by young Ralls to the victory yesterday.

It was his insightful pass to Whittingham inside the box, which he miss controlled, that led to the ball breaking for Immers to,score the third goal.

It was also a clever, around the corner pass to Pilkington that led to the foul that produced the penalty that Whittingham so magnificently dispatched.

Ralls and O'Keefe were superb yesterday against and aggressive experienced midfield trio of Brighton. They worked hard to disrupt the opposition, they demanded the ball throughout the game and played at a high tempo using neat, progressive passing. It was nice to see two palyers in our midfield looking to play the ball forward and at pace.

Disagree. I think one of the reasons we've started dominating games is because he's sat in there. He'll get stuck in. He's always available and keeps the ball moving. He presses high and has loads of energy. He may not play the killer passes etc but in my opinion he's been pivotal. All have different opinions though.

Oh please spare us the sanctimonious bollox Gibbo

The 2 passes you refer to were short 10 yard midfield passes not through balls. Whitts tried to take on the defender and it ricocheted into Immers path and Pilkington had several touches and went away from goal before he drew the foul.

I counted 3 occasions yesterday with Malone in acres on the left and Ralls put it out for a goal kick twice and too close to the centre half on the other.

That's the beauty of TV it has better angles and replays

What's your view on the slade signings that play polo?
Pelts, malone, okeefe (you've made your thoughts clear on him) ameobi and immers?

I think u know what u get with pelts. Love how committed he is, nothing special but does his job.
I think malone has a bit of class about him. Doesn't get beaten often and has a bit of skill and can deliver a ball.
I mentioned I like okeefe.
And with ameobi I still can't tell if he's world class or a donkey lol.

So two passes that were forward in direction and found teammates free in the penalty box were not through balls? I wonder what your opinion would have been if your hero had made the same two passes. The fact of the matter both passes led directly to goals. Hence, in my opinion they were significant contributions.

As regards the wayward passes to Malone you keep referring back to, conditions at the stadium yesterday were horrendous, some of the worst I have endured watching the City over a period of near,y fifty years. They made judging long distance passes very difficult.

It is no co-incidence at all our best attacking plays came when we exploited the distance between their two centre backs with incisive, If short in distance, passes between them and their fullback compatriots, to players making late and clever runs into the box. The movement of Pilkington and Immers was exceptional yesterday and young Lawrence was a constant box of tricks.

It was a great attacking performance in difficult conditions.

I don't watch them enough but what I have seen I like Malone, think O Keefe is a 10 a penny player, Immers looked lively yesterday. Puts a shift in.

I like Aneobi but that laid back style never goes down well here with a football crowd that prefers hard work over skill. Probably the rugby culture.

I think Zohore looked a donkey.

We all have different opinions but been part of a team that is effective isn't all about spraying 50 yards passes and ghosting past players, two dogs in the middle allowed the more luxurious players to win the match. 11 cogs and these two were crucial, fantastic

Re: " Unsung heroes "

Sun Feb 21, 2016 10:39 am

The ball Ralls rolled into Whitts at pace that broke to Immers was about 5 yards outside the area and he had the whole defence between him and the goal. I'd hardly call that a significant contribution or a through ball. So if we are now giving assists for balls played forward to a team mate before its played or breaks to another team mate then Whitts played it forward into Ralls before Ralls played it into Pilkington for the penalty.

The ball Conolly played into Whitts for the first now that's what I call a through ball.

As for the conditions Whitts didn't seem to have too much trouble with them some of his touches were sublime but I wouldn't expect you to give him any credit.

Each to their own I thought we got it from back to front quickly, through the wide areas and often bypassing central midfield.

O Keefe I hardly noticed him tbh and he had just 40 touches and made 1 tackle according to the stats so I'm sorry but I don't buy into him being one of the most important cogs in the wheel yesterday.

I think you need to look more carefully at your television Polo, the pass from Ralls to Whittingham, which he did miss control, was certainly further out than 5 yards more like 20 yards.

I thought Whittingham was much improved yesterday, elsewhere I have commented on how cool and clever his finish was for the first goal and how magnificent his penalty was dispatched. I think you need to read what is written not what you imagine to be written.

Re: " Unsung heroes "

Russ has stumbled across this progressive formation totally by accident and ultimately this will mean Ralls impact will decrease. Nearly all our players are in their best position now.

With all the movement up front we needed footballing intelligence and a safe forward outlet which Whitts provides in droves. This formation follows its natural evolution and ends up a 4231 with sitting midfielders, this doesn't play into Joe's strength especially with Diki on the bench.

Russ said it was a lopsided 433 and it is very fluid, Immers is used and looks good in it, Lawrence is only an attacking option with Whitts adding numbers in the middle when needed, well done Russ 32 games too late! The only genuine 442 player he had was Ralls but with 4 attacking players he needs to be disciplined and sit and that is not his game.

If we are talking about unsung heros, how about unmentioned villians.....Fabio was so poor, yet barely a mention. Peltier and Malone are far better in this set up.

I'm not on about how far out Ralls was when he played the pass. When Whitts received the ball he was at least 5 yards outside the area, and had defenders up his arse, not inside the area as you stated earlier. It was about a 10 yard pass from Ralls which Whitts had to stretch for and tried to take around the defender.

In my opinion the 10 yard ball Ralls played into Whitts was neither a significant contribution or an assist it's a lucky break.

Your right he did fall in to it by accident, but I think it might just work. Correct pelts adds some steel and Ralls will be less creative but whitts more, so again this works. I don't think anybody can question much after yesterday it worked we looked comfortable and it's not about individuals but the team.

He must play better in the non televised games cos every TV game this season he's been shite.

I hope they bring Peltier in Tuesday or Downing wil have a field day.
