The obituaries of Peter Whittingham’s Cardiff City career have often been put forward and I should know, I wrote a few of them. But against Brighton, Whittingham showed how important he can be for his side with a showing that exemplified all that is good about him. The set-piece play was there, with a good free-kick and that emphatic penalty. But in that slightly advanced role, ticked out on the left, Whittingham saw plenty of the ball and managed to get up to support Pilkington too. Is there life in the old dog yet? In this kind of Cardiff City side and line-up, most definitely.
