Slade says the players enjoyed spending time with the owner and listening to his desire for attacking football




Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has bucked the trend by insisting he wants to see more of the club’s owner, Vincent Tan.

In a football world where managers usually crave as little contact as possible with their club’s owners, Slade insists more visits from the Malaysian billionaire would be welcome.

Tan watched only his second game of the campaign as his Bluebirds drew 0-0 at Charlton last weekend. He also used the brief trip to outline plans to make the club debt free by 2012 and he visited the players in training too.





Tan caused controversy by revealing how he had urged his players to shoot more, but Slade said the players had appreciated the words of the owner.




“The players were respectful of his views and respected the fact he found time to come here,” said Slade.

“He spoke to them about many things. Some things were funny. His personality came across.

“Away from home at Charlton, we had 23 shots. I think that’s high, but out of those, we hit the target five times. We have to be more lethal. There were a lot of positives. The last two games we were dominant, we created opportunities. We need to keep doing that. Not just knock on the door, but open it.


“Sometimes this game can get complicated, when somebody spells it out simply that’s welcome. Vincent is the owner and is passionate about football. He wants more attacking and shots. Who can disagree with that? Any manager would want that too.

“The players enjoyed his visit. They embraced it because he’s not here often. I would argue it would be better if he was over more often. He’s very busy, but to have him around more would be positive.




“You can nurture relationships and trust and have a common strategy moving forwards. More interaction and dialogue has to be good for club.”

Tan has often been seen as a divisive figure in the Welsh capital. His re-branding of the club colours, which he has since reversed, alienated a large number of supporters.

But Slade maintained Tan had the best interests of the club at heart and understood what he, as a manager, was trying to do with the Bluebirds.

“I thought he came across passionately and had a strong interest in club,” added Slade.

“He’s realised how difficult a time it’s been over recent months. Financially and things. Now we are gaining a bit more stability. He realises that too.

It looks pretty obvious that Slade is sucking up so that Tan offers him a new contract. Even if Slade doesn't want to stay, a new contract on the table will increase his appeal to other potential suitors.

I wonder how much Slade's nose grew when he said that. Bet enough to acomodate several birds nests.

As much as I cant take to Slade because of the nonsense and Mike Bassett style cliches he usually chats there is not a lot wrong with whtat hes saying there.

Tan did come across as passionate, charismatic, funny and i do think having him around the place more often would be a positive.

I don't know what I am more surprised at, either the fact a football manager is wanting more advice for his team from the owner or the fact that Slade was out of Tan's backside long enough to make such a statement.

Couldn't agree more and as I said in another thread he should do more interviews because the last one dispelled alot of the bullshit made up about him.And I think he's a fast learner too when it comes to running a football club.

Spot on Polo, to think it took him all this time to actually sit down and talk to a few fans and press.. he done this earlier he wouldn't have as much as flack as he got.

Agree 100%, nothing that Tan said or done on his visit was out of order.
