Collymore Says these are men prey on clubs

The former Aston Villa striker is not a fan of Massimo Cellino, Vincent Tan or ex-Birmingham City president Carson Yeung.


Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has heavily criticised Leeds United and Cardiff City chiefs on Boylesports.com.

Massimo Cellino is the chairman of Leeds at the moment, while Vincent Tan currently owns Cardiff City.

Collymore is not a fan of either Cellino or Tan, and he has made some harsh comments about them.

The former England international striker has also criticised former Birmingham City chairman Carson Yeung and Aston Villa chief Randy Lerner.


“He (Lerner) ruined Cleveland Browns too in the NFL, to the point where he sold up and went into hiding,” Collymore wrote on Boylesports.com. “He’s hoping the same will happen at Villa but big clubs in the NFL where there’s no relegation don’t come cheap and still have top flight cache.

“Villa are relegated, have a poor playing squad and a manager who probably won’t be there come May, so who is going to buy?

“A Cellino? A Carson Yeung type? A Vincent Tan? Men who prey on clubs for the short term. Never for the long term, to take care of and to provide stability and grow, so it’s incredibly worrying times for the club.”

Villa are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment with just 16 points from 26 matches, eight points behind 17th-placed Norwich City.




Leeds, Cardiff and Birmingham are currently in the Championship. While the Whites are in the bottom half of the table, the other two teams are doing relatively well and could potentially return to the Premier League as early as next season.

Birmingham are seventh in the league table, just three points behind sixth-placed Derby County, while Cardiff are only five points off the playoffs.

I'm not a Tan fan, but I don't really get Stan Collymore's point here? If all he's saying is that he doesn't want those sort of owners near Villa, then fair enough but his comments don't really make sense here - as usual.

Got to agree with you on this. Clearing our 100+ million debt is not exactly preying on us is it. Collymore talking shit again. Tan is trying the right his wrongs and if he sticks to his promise we'll be one of a very few with zero debt.

Why bring other clubs into it when he is only interested in Villa

Agree with you here mate. I never have and never will be a Tan fan but credit where it's due to the guy he is making a concerted effort to settle things down and win the fans over. Of course, it makes business sense for him to do so but I think he is starting to get more of an idea about what owning this club is all about.

I like Stan but sometimes he bleets on without thinking what he says. Tan has been here for many years and just given us a plan to be debt free in 5 years and effectively writing off 78m. I am no massive tan supporter but this is not a sign of someone in short term to me.
