' So Vincent Tan Asked '

Vincent Tan asked Cardiff City to shoot 30 or 40 times a game... so how many attempts were there at Charlton?

Tan believes if the Bluebirds take a shot at every opportunity, it follows they will score more goals

It was one of the more illuminating elements of his visit to Cardiff this week.

Vincent Tan spoke with the Cardiff City players and outlined in his own imitable way one area where he believed they were going wrong: shooting.

Tan said he believed the Bluebirds should be taking far more pot shots at goal - at least 30 or 40 a match - because, by the law of averages, it would result in more goals.

"In every match I want to see 30 or 40 attempts on goal, at least. Just shoot from 25, 30 yards, I told them," Tan had said.

"Peter Whittingham is capable of shooting and scoring score goals from 30 yards, so have a go, I said.

"The law of averages says the more you shoot, the more you'll score. If you shoot 30 times you'll get three goals, 40 times will be four goals, 50 times and you'll get five goals."

To reinforce his point even more, Tan smiled: "Have you seen ugly men walking around with a very beautiful wife? Well that's because they've asked 30, 40, 50 times before getting a yes.

So just how did the Cardiff squad respond to his advice at Charlton ?

Well, they didn't quite manage 30 efforts at goal but they did heed his words to some extent.

Their 18 efforts at goal were more than they managed in their previous 12 Championship outings and were nearly a third more than their average of 12.2 during the course of the season prior to their trip to the Valley.

Cardiff City against Charlton
18
Shots

3
On target

The last time they had as many as that was during the 2-2 draw with Burnley at the Cardiff City Stadium back in November.

The increased shots volume was to no avail, though, with just three on target, no goals and Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington been frustrated by the woodwork.

Russell Slade: Anthony Pilkington strike should have stood - but we need to develop a ruthless streak

It seems they may need one or two more efforts at goal to prove Tan's law of averages theory correct against Brighton next week.

I really can't take him seriously on these shooting comments  .

I thought that it was actually a very valid comment. We just seem too reluctant to shoot and should be more confident to have a go when opportunities arise. We aren't good enough to pass a goal into the net like Barcelona.

And the away fans today encouraged our players by helpfully shouting "SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOT" every time our players touched the ball.

Especially when they were in their own half. :o

At the end of the day Vinney is a fan just like the rest of us (except his season ticket cost £63m :D ) and his opinion is the team don't shoot enough. Fair enough I'm always screaming at them to have a pot shot as well.

Indeed I claim an assist for Noone's goal vs Fulham back in August. He was yards away from my seat when I shouted "shoot Nooney" 2 seconds later he cut in and blasted the ball into the top left hand corner of the net :ayatollah: .

:D - I agree they do need to shoot more - VT is not as stupid as some people like to think - I do not know too many billionaires who are :bluescarf: (in fact I do not know any billionaires at all :D )
