" Cardiff City boss Russell Slade: Anthony Pilkington strike should have stood - but we need to develop a ruthless streak "

13/02/16

The Bluebirds boss lamented the decision from the officials to rule out the forward's strike before conceding his side need to be more clinical.

Russell Slade felt his side were hard done by after an Anthony Pilkington goal in the first half was ruled out for offside.

Cardiff were unlucky not to score after hitting the woodwork twice and drawing a number of fine saves from Charlton goalkeeper Stephen Henderson.

And Slade was particularly disappointed that Pilkington's effort was ruled out after a tight offside call.

“We’ve looked at the DVD and Pilkington, you can see the cut of the grass, Pilkington is onside when he scored," Slade said.

"It’s the second week running.

“When you engineer a perfectly good goal and it’s ruled offside, its doubly disappointing.

“We’ll still keep fighting, we’ll keep pushing on, we played some good football, we just didn’t have that final ruthless streak."

It was the second week in a row that Cardiff have failed to score, and despite having over 20 attempts at the Valley, they could only fashion three on goal.

Despite that, Slade says he retains belief in the forwards he has at the club.

“To have goals in your team is massive," he said.

"We’ve got strikers that we think are still very capable, we’ve got a couple of strikers who’ve just joined who in all fairness might need a little time to get used to the intensity and the tempo of the game.

“We have enough there despite losing a couple and the embargo. I still credit with my forward with enough ability to score goals today and hopefully they’ll learn from it and tuck them away next week.”

My Opinion, You make your own luck, Ref was poor for both teams today and we played the worst team in the League, Not good enough by us.

What you think of the sending off? Harsh. Red couldn't wait to get the card out.

Yeah I would and would give a proper winger like Harris on the wing but it will be Lawrence so Possibly upfront against Brighton it will be Pilkington and Saadi. :ayatollah:

20 attempts, by the law of averages that was a 2 goal game to us. I vote for the law to be tweeked to a 1/21 ratio :ayatollah:

True Polo, sounds a bit unlucky today, it would of been amazing if Tan had it spot on today with a 2-0 victory :ayatollah:

Thank you mr Tan for converting debt to equity and a promise to get rid of the debt by 2021.

You stated that you have made many mistakes and that you have learned by them, but let me tell you now, you are about to make a very serious and dangerous mistake that could send this club backwards for a another season,

You must for our sakes and the club's sake get rid of Russel Slade now not the end of the season but now. The man is totally out of his depth get rid now please, I think I am in your words being reasonable because I could use stronger language, but I won't I went to the match last week because of the things I read on here and then I made another vow that I will not go down again whilst Slade is our manager.

And that after being a club follower for 62 years, 40 of them a season ticket holder.

It's difficult to have a ruthless streak when because of circumstances out of your control, you don't have any ruthless strikers at the club and you're forced to play a winger up front. That's all 100% Slade's fault though apparently!
