" RUSSELL SLADE WANTS TO STAY " BUT

Fri Feb 12, 2016 10:32 am

Slade says he wants to stay with Bluebirds, But Tan has not asked him to stay on.

Russell Slade sat with Tan yesterday for over two hours

By Simon Gaskel

Friday 12th Feb 2016

For the first time, Slade indicates he would like to extend his stay with the Bluebirds when his contract is up in the summer.

He said:

Yes, of course, I want a new contract when it’s right. I have enjoyed my time here. I am not looking to move. There is a lot of things that we have had to do at the football club really almost before we can press the foot down on the accelerator and move forward. There were a lot of players in the first instance and even despite the work we have done on that side we still find ourselves in an embargo situation, but we are hopeful we will come out of that in the summer.
For me it’s just a focus nothing has changed from the start of the season whether we have had to address certain financial issues or not. The fact is our target has been the top six nothing has changed and that is still the focus going into the game on Saturday. There is no indication of where we finish. But myself and Vincent did not discuss it at all. We talk every week so I don’t think there is any issue with dialogue. There were no assurances, nor did I ask for any.

Reading between the lines he will stay if we make the top six.Mind you if another club were to come in and offer a contract Tans hand may be forced.

By all accounts he's a decent man.

Done what was asked of him by Tan and kept the team out of relegation danger.

But if the club is serious about getting promoted he is not the man to do it.

Fully agree

We as fans can do 2 things.

Stop going because we are not happy with manager or
Go and support him

(of course we can still moan about the man either way over our keyboards and pub talks!!!)

Funny thing

I hated Malkys football just as much but I went and supported, even when the nightmare rebrand came....
had a a brake when we were in premier as felt a bit humiliated by the circus but now I just want to go and follow the team and see it hopefully rise from the misery of the latest era in the saga that is Cardiff City FC.

Cant wait for Charlton tomorrow, havent been there for years

I just get that feeling that Slade can improve the squad, but when the pressure is on to actually win something?

It's hard to back a horse that'dnever won at this class or done the distance

Slade on Tan leaping to his defence

By Simon Gaskel

Friday 12th Feb 2016

He said people should stop criticising you. What do you think about that?

I’ve always said that people are entitled to their opinion, that’s what life is. All me, my staff and the team can do is change people’s minds and try to navigate the football club through what have been turbulent waters. There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes in terms of dealing with the amount of players here, we’ve reduced that side of things and the financial sides. Both sides needed to be addressed for the good of the club. That’s the most important thing. Nothing is bigger than the football club. It’s important the football club is protected and we’ve had to do measures to do that.

Simon Gaskel today asked Slade

'No issue' with dialogue

Did he say we will talk about it in the summer?

No, we did not discuss it at all.

Is that surprising?

No, not at all.

Won’t people find that odd, that he’s not talking to the manager about next season?

We talk every week, there’s no issue with dialogue about where we are going or what we are trying to achieve.

Re: " RUSSELL SLADE WANTS TO STAY "

"Top Six" is that the pinnacle of his ambition from the start of the season, why not top 2?
Does he look forward to the "fun" of the playoffs?
So a 1 in 4 chance of the big time is the best we can hope for and with that approach the same for years to come, because if we want the style of football that will guarantee Championship football then :sladein:
However 10,000 less supporters (and rising) just might want something different.

Gaskel said to Slade

No contract talks with Tan yesterday

Tan also said he had a mutual understanding with you. What does that mean?

It means there’s an openness and an honesty and trust. When I’ve been asked about the contractual situation, I’ve said, it’s not a big issue, we will sit down and there will be a discussion and that will be

I agree with this but football really is a funny old game.

Is Slade due a season in the sun? I really dont know.

Managers can fall in to grace and out of grace.

Where are Aidy Boothroyd, Ian Holloway, Peter Taylor,Bryan Robson

all had a spell of goodness all had a spell of badness
it can come early, middle or end of your managerial career.

I personally dont think Russell is the leader we need but hoe he can prove me wrong for the good of CCFC

I will just get behind them and try to support whats in front of me

I agree, it would be great to see it happen. Slade and Tan clearly have a good working relationship, it might be best for the club to stick with that.

Tan demands a figurehead like Slade more than a more reclusive one that he can't get hold of to tell them to shoot more!

Re: " RUSSELL SLADE WANTS TO STAY " BUT

i think it's time to say thanks for everything Russ but goodbye and go with our best wishes.

In fairness he has done an ok job under very difficult circumstances and his cv is going to look better than it did 2 years ago.

I just can't see him ever getting us promoted ev n with some cash to spend.

It will be a huge gamble but its probably about time to give Bellamy a chance

Tan has said they will do whats best for the club. I don't expect him to get a new contract

Luke, the Bellamy 'stories' are gathering momentum and (to date) no one on either side has denied contact (albeit through Agents or otherwise) so I would like to think you are right

Russell Slade staying (or any other manager) would never be a factor in my season ticket renewal, but the appointment of someone like Craig Bellamy would 'lift' me enormously! :ayatollah:

But in light of what Tan said about having a manager he could rely on, he could trust, not a big name but someone experienced, does Bellamy fit into that category do you think? do we actually know how good his friendship with Tan is? other than presumptions here on the board? I'm not saying a don't want Bellamy as manager, I'm on the fence with it, but does it fit into the ethos that Tan presented in his interview?

I know everyone seems to be keen on Bellamy, but I'm not sure why. It may work, but it is a big gamble. He has no managerial track record at all, and we know from experience that good players are not guaranteed to become good managers, as our previous manager proved. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Bellamy could be a bigger flop than Ole, so while there may be great excitement for a month or so,that could quickly disappear if we are not winning every game in style. I'm not convinced that a so called ambitious Championship club is the best place to learn how to become a manager.

I think you make some very good points and whilst I personally wouldn't mind Bellamy you're right, it would be another big gamble.

On the other hand retaining Slade would also be a gamble unless the limit of your ambition is mid table every season with the odd flirtation with the play-offs. Nothing Slade has shown over the last two seasons or indeed at any time in his 700 odd games as a manager would suggest that he could get us promoted.

Ideally we should be looking for an experienced manager with experience of managing at the top end of the Championship or higher. Not easy to find I know but that would seem to be the most sensible option if we are serious about promotion.

Gavin, I don't think Tan is 100% sure what to do next and wants time to review towards the end of the season without committing to anything, if I'm reading things properly

I have heard that the subject has been 'mooted' and maybe tentative questions asked of Craig Bellamy

If an experience 'hand' could be added to the mix (Dutch Ray or possibly even Slade himself??) then it could be a runner and VT's 'ethos' could remain intact ;)

I guess we'll see at the end of the season and it may yet depend on our finishing position in the table!

As Tan said yesterday, he trusts Slade 100% and after Tans experience with the 2 previous managers, maybe Slade will move upstairs as General Manager and Bellamy (or someone else) comes in as Head Coach. Tan can then sit happy knowing Slade is still there as his "yes" man.
Could work for both fans and Tan!?

Nope
I accept he has had to deal.with selling players, not really his decision.
But has he made the best of what he has? No
Has he made the best of who he has signed? No

Let's be honest give him a few million and he would sugn more fullbacks we don't need and more wingers he won't play.
